Croton Plant I have a 5 month old yorkie, Roorie, who is VERY playful and VERY destructive. Recently Roorie has been eating at 2 new plants we have received as gift. I have not personally seen her EAT the leaves but have found bits and pieces all over the house. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. Yesterday I was looking up what type of plants they are and the correct way to care.... BEST idea. While browsing around I have realized that Croton Plants are NOT pet/children friendly, they are very poisonous! I have not noticed anything different with Roorie and again, not even sure if she actually ingested the plant... Im assuming she has NOT eaten anything but I myself am a :newarrow:puppy owner and just want some opinions on WHAT TO DO?! :doh34: |
Welcome! One of mine was a plant eater/chewer so I had to make sure any plant that she could get near was pet friendly. If they weren't I gave them away. If you can get it out of her reach I would right away. If not I would give it away. I think they mostly chew on the leaves but I wouldn't want to take a chance. |
Thank you for your reply... The plants are now OUTDOOR plants! (of course in an area Roorie does not have access to). Becoming a new puppy owner, plants NEVER rang a bell. I would have never thought they would harm my precious baby. |
From what I read online it looks like they get gastrointestinal issues from Crotons. It would not hurt to just mention it to your vet anyway. There are a lot of plants that are hazardous to pups. Other things such as sugarless gum and candy and toxic, too! The xylitol in them is highly toxic! Welcome to YT! :) |
