Question on vomiting Hey guys! Being a new Yorkie mom, I thought I better ask this. Katie Scarlett has only vomited on 2 occasions since we had her. She is almost 16 weeks. Once was right after we got her on the way home from the breeder. She was 13 weeks at the time and I think it was just her first car sickness episode. Ever since, she has not vomited in the car and we go on a little drive almost every day. Well this morning as she was waking up, she vomited. She had been in her bed since last night and had not pottied all night, which is unusual. She usually potties at least once during the night (pee.) Well she played around on the bed with me for a minute as she was waking up. She then used her puppy stairs to get down off the bed and I thought she was going towards the pad to pee since she had not gone. Well she stopped in front of the pad and vomited. It did not have blood or anything in it. She peed on the pad about 10 minutes later. I gave her morning dose of Nutri Cal and she perked right up. She let me groom her and then we went on our morning walk. She seems fine now. Of course she is now napping next to my feet after our long walk. Is she ok? What could of made her vomit? I am watching her closely now and she seems to be her normal self. Is there any signs I need to look out for? Should I call the vet now or do I wait? Help! I don't know if it's just a minor thing or if I should be seriously concerned??? Any advice? |
Was the throw up more bile and foamy or was it more solid? If it is bile her tummy may have been too empty. |
It was more solid. |
Just keep an eye on her and if the vomiting worsens and continues she needs tp see a vet. Now mine might have an off day where there stomach is upset and they may vomit once or twice and I dont take them to a vet. If its all day continual and alot though I will make a vet appt because I worry about dehydration and with yorkies you have to worry about pancreatis which can be life threatening. She is a tiny pup though and you have to be watching her very closely because she could dehydrate alot easier than an adult dog. One time when my Chachi was a pup he had diahrea for like a day and I took him to the vet the next day like aT noon and they had to inject him with fluids because he was showing signs of dehydration so thats how quickly it can happen with a small pup. If you can give her some pedialyte that will restore her electrolytes a little bit |
Thanks! I will be keeping a sharp eye on her. She is up from her nap now. She immediately went to her bowl to drink water. I just had got her some fresh, cold water from the fridge. She then ate a bite. She is not playing. I will watch her closely througout the day though. I think she may be walking over to her potty now. We will see. She has only pee pee'd so far today. I figure she will have to poopie soon. |
Well she must've known I was typing about her potty! Tee Hee! She is over there now going poopie. It looks normal. |

Hope she is ok! |
Traveling could have caused some IBS and she's a bit constipated. My Yorkies all have had spit-ups or vomiting from time-to-time when constipated. If she doesn't poop soon, might check with vet what to do. Try to get her to play and run and see if that won't get the poop started. |
