Large Lump above shoulder I just noticed a very large lump above Miles' shoulder, right about where his microchip is (he was microchipped about 3 years ago). It's a pretty large protrusion for his size (probably the size of a 50-cent piece), and feels somewhat soft to the touch. Miles doesn't seem to be in pain when I touch it. This came on really suddenly...I didn't feel anything like that on him yesterday. I've started googling it, since it's after hours at his vet, and I'm seeing some really frightening things (cancer caused by a microchip?). Maybe it's just coincidence that this lump is by his microchip. I have no idea. Anyone with experience with something like this? I don't know whether to wait until morning and take him to the vet, or haul him to the emergency vet tonight. In my experience, the ER vet has done more harm than good, so I am hesitant. Miles is acting fine, and the lump doesn't seem to cause any pain. Help! |
I should probably add that he was at the vet for his shots a little over a week ago. They take him in a separate room to do the shots, so not exactly sure where they administer. Maybe in the same spot? |
I was just going to ask if he has his vax done recently. That is what it is. The fluid from the shot is collected under there. Just massage it every so often and it will go down in about a month. You can call the vet also, that is what they told me. Actually YTers told me first and I called the vet to confirm. Don't worry about it. It's NOT the microchip. |

Mine take Uni to the back. I don't see any problem with it, since I trust my vet and his staff. I don't like the places where they do it in front of me and make me hold her. They are the pros, they should be doing it. There was a debate on this issue before. I don't know why it's such a dig deal, unless the dog get anxious when the owner is not around, then I can understand. |

I have known my vet for a long time, and completely trust him and his staff. They are wonderful, and always have been. Furthermore, Miles' separation anxiety makes it hard to do the vaccines while I am in the room (he scrambles to try to get back to me). When I am out of sight, he does much better. Anyway...this thread has taken a bit of a tangent. Back to the original topic...the lump on my dog's neck. |
Two posts after we told you what it could be and that's going off tangent? I made a comment and someone answered me that was it. We both acknowlged your question, what else do you want us to say? |

I agree with the other posters, it could be from recent shot. Check with your Vet tomorrow. It sounds like what happened to Ginny Joy when she got her last shot. |

Yep....I am sure it is from the shot! :) Definitely not something I would go to the EC about. Just call your vet in the morning. |
Mina had a lump show up about 5 days after her shots. I had read where that could happen and had to remember how many days it had been. It took a week for the lump to go away,it bothered me alot more than it bothered her. |
