choking and now vomiting Hi all, Our Yorkshire Puppy, Teddy, is almost 7 months old. I noticed he was often choking, like something was stuck in his throat, so we took him to vet. She said he has swollen lump at the angle of his jaw bone, which I guess is his tonsils. She put him on antibiotics, which helped with swollen tonsils. He did fine and it seems like he didn't choke as much anymore. However, now, he's started vomiting. It's not that bad though, just mainly water and it happens usually in the morning. The rest of the day he's a completely happy and playful, he eats alot and his poop is solid. I'm at lost here. I'm taking him to the Vet this afternoon for his heartworm and also check why he's vomiting. But since the vet in our country aren't that experienced with Yorkies, I'd really appreciate your help on this. Thank you. |
One of my dogs had infected tonsils once. Up until then, I didn't realize dogs could get that. I'm glad Teddy is doing better now. I'm thinking, as far as the vomiting, that it is because he has an empty tummy and is throwing up bile. Try giving him a little food just before he goes to bed and see if that helps. Since he seems healthy and happy, I think it is probably just that. Let us know what the vet says! |
Thanks for your input, but I don't really think it's because of an empty tummy. He chokes then vomit, and it happens usually once or twice a day. Normally in the morning. If he'd eaten before, he'd still vomit it. |
Could you try a second opinion from another vet? |
So sorry about your baby. We have gone through this twice this summer with Dudley. He acted like he had to swallow over and over and come to find out it was toncillitus. He never did vomit with his. Kibble hurt his little throat so I moisened canned food and he could eat that without it hurting and he was also on antibotics. Hope your baby gets to feeling better but I would try to find out about the vomiting. |

Here's a picture of Teddy, hurt to think he might be unwell: |
Ahhhh, look at that sweet little darling face. He reminds me alot of Dudley only Dudley has lighten up on his face and his back is turning silver now. He was 2 last March. It scares you when they are sick. Dudley only weighs 4lbs. and he had be eating on a treat that night we first noticed him swallowing funny. Took him to the ER in the middle of the night. They probably thought I was crazy not to wait until my vet opened up the next morning but I was afraid he was choking of had something hung. THey took x-rays and he was clear all the way down. Tonsils were swollen so we went to my vet the next morning and like I said about moisening his canned food and almost making it soupy, he could eat without it hurting. Hope that baby feels better. He is a sweetie. |
I love that sweet face hope he is better soon |
Awww, thank you. We got back from our vet today. She told me to keep an eye on Teddy, but she doesn't think there's anything wrong with him. His tonsils are no longer swollen, so she assumes the vomit has nothing to do with it. She also told me to keep him warm, as he sleeps in an air conditioned room with us, so I went and bought him a jumpsuit to keep him warm. I will see how he does tomorrow. Please please no more throw up!! |
I am happy to report it's been two days and no vomiting, choking anymore. I hope it stays this way!!! Thank you for your suggestions! |
I have a five year old yorkie that doesn't seem to do well on any diet I have given him.First he was on SOLID GOLD from his breeder. Then we switched to california natural and every few weeks hes in a sick tummy mode.throwing up but stool firm. I just switched him to a bland diet rice and boiled and drained hamburger but was still throwing up, on and off .Hes my hunter so he could have licked something on the floor, not sure. It's 1;46 and i'm monitoring him.Hes eating california natural lamb and rice but not sure its doing the job. I am at my wits end...help.....suggestions. Vet tomorrow if not better. |
