White flakes from skin Hello everyone Bentley my new pup is now 14 weeks old and have noticed white flakes all in his hair. I am assuming this must be dry skin. He is not losing patches of hair or scratching. But when I brush him like dandruff it is everywhere. Since I did not have any type of problem with my first yorkie not sure what to do. He has been to the Dr for his shots and will be going back this month for his other set of shots so I intend on addresing this issue to the vet. He didn't have this the first visit so am really wondering what it is and what I should do. He eats Halo (Chicken) for pups. Same food I raised Ciarra on in which I have had great results with this brand. Any suggestions, input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ciarra and Bentleys mom |
Could be something as innocent as needing a different shampoo and proper rinsing. Have you bathed him, or did he come from the breeder this way? Use a good doggy shampoo (no baby shampoo) and rinse thoroughly. Follow up with a conditioner. Definitely discuss with the vet when you return. |
Tropiclean has a great oatmeal tea tree shampoo.... could be something as easy as that..... Oatmeal & Tea Tree - Medicated Shampoo Riley has environmental allergies and had dry skin and the vet told me to give him fish oil. I got some Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet in the liquid form from vitacost.com I told him I occassionally rub coconut oil on his belly and he said he would benefit better from something orally. Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet? -- 2 fl oz - Vitacost |
My yorkie had a skin condition called dermatitis. Check with vet and when you take him in don't bathe him so they can see the white flakes. Wishing you a wonderful life with your yorkies.:) |
