Update Austin Cataract :-)) Hi: I thought I would start a new thread to give the GOOD NEWS of little Austin. We went to the eye doc yesterday and she said the eye is healing nicely with much of the inflammation gone apart from near the incision (normal at this stage). He has had a problem with appetite and occasional vomiting, but hopefully as the doses of some of the meds are being reduced now (due to his good progress) he will feel better. He sleeps a lot and is not interested in any activity, but we do take him on short walks for pees/poops. He is really upset that the cone does not allow ground sniffing though. The large plastic cone is a pain but has to be used for at least another week, then I can use the soft Kiss-E collar. I must give a plug for the anti-nausea medication, it works wonders!!! I did not give at first as he has so many chemicals in his poor little system I did not want to add more, but had to in order to ease his tummy problems. The drug is called Cerenia (1X 16mg/day pill for a 10 pound dog). It is also used for car sickness for those who may want to try for that??? The Vet did not seem to want to give it for a long period though, but I sure will use it for now. Thank you all for your continued support and caring. I am sorry I have not been responsive to others who have worries with sick pets, but I read your posts and feel your pain. Get well soon all you little sick ones out there. A good day for us today!!! |
Glad to hear you have good news! This is wonderful for you both! |
Terrific news. They are tough little dogs |
I am very happy to hear that Austin is recuperating nicely, and I am sending prayers that he will be back to 100% very soon. :) Don't worry about sending support to others right now. You have your hands full taking such good care of your boy. |
Austin Thank you all, I am sure he will be fine soon. Your caring and support has kept me going thru the rougher patches. Thanks. Marge PS It seems that not many YTers have experience with canine cataract surgery and its pitfalls; but hope if they have the misfortune to do so, my experiences will help them understand it all more. The unknown is the worst! |
It's great that Austin is doing so well. You'll probably see a world of difference in him once you remove the cone. They really do hate those things.:) |
