HELP: Uncontrollable BMs Once again, Lucy is having problems. Starting Wednesday, I came home from chemo and Lucy had thrown up all over the kitchen, and what also looked like diarrhea. She has had periods of feeling okay since then, let out around the house, etc. Yesterday she was throwing up again so we kept her in the kitchen where it is tile. Came home from my parents house and she hadn't thrown up anymore so we let her out into the living room. Then my husband caught her crouching under the dining room table trying to poop. Lucy is very well potty trained and VERY RARELY goes in the house. So my husband took her outside, it looked solid but we kept her in the kitchen to be safe. This morning we woke up and my husband said there were about 12 spots of poop in the kitchen ranging from soft to loose. What could be causing this? What should I do? Couldn't get through to vet yet, but I have cancer and I can't afford to take her unless they are actually going to do something. I can't afford the song and dance of paying for a visit, them saying to monitor her, and then paying for an ER visit later in the day. HELP!! |
The list of possible causes is very long and only a vet can assess the situation. It sounds like your girl has been vomiting several times every day or two and pooping way too much since Wednesday. If that is correct, then the only right answer is to seek medical help today. She may already be dehydrated. If she is, her life is in danger. After just one day of vomiting more than a couple times, a vet would be needed. |
^^ I agree with Ellie May on all points. Very sorry that both you and your baby are sick. Quote:

I left a voicemail for a vet tech and am waiting to hear back. She seems to be acting "okay" now. Hubby washed her behind and now she is eating brown rice and drinking water. Guess we will wait and see what the vet says. It hasn't happened recently, but at one time I paid almost $1,000 (at 21 years old) because I had to go multiple times in one day, they did tests finally, gave her fluids, but never found out what was wrong...I just nursed her with fluids until she was feeling better, because they didn't have any other suggestions. |
Sorry you had a bad experience. Don't let that deter you from seeking help for your dogs when they need it. What does she normally eat? Has she had anything different recently? |
I just looked at your older posts and see that this has been going on for years with your little Lucy. What ever happened with the suspected liver issues from 2007? |
I hope you figured out what's going on. My boy, Bentley, just had surgery Friday from similar issues. I hope the vet called you back soon. |
I'm sorry that there have been vet issues in the past (some ERs won't charge a second exam fee if you have to go twice in one day for the same issue - it's a reduced fee). However, that shouldn't stop you from getting veterinary care for your pup. Letting a vet assess the situation (after physical exam) is the only right way to proceed. Even if it's just fluids and an antiemetic needed, those are given there and not at home. |
Still waiting to hear back from vets. Nothing more was ever said about her elevated liver levels, she has gone to the same vet this whole time. She is resting in the kitchen now, has kept her rice and water down so far. It has been about 45 minutes. |
She threw up her rice...tried to get her to drink a little water. Hubby and my dad are going to take her to the vet for me, as I'm on the brink of a fever myself. I hope they get her feeling better soon. I have been keeping Ella away from her so she doesn't get sick, and I've been scrubbing my hands since I have no immune system. Prayers appreciated for my baby. |
I'm so sorry you are going through this with your baby while you are sick. I'm glad she is going to be able to get into the vet today. Please let us know what they say. Prayers going up for you and your baby. |
So sorry you both are going through such a rough time. I hope you can get some answers this time. My thoughts are prayers are with you both. |
After a couple hundred dollars...they decided it was "glutton's bloat". The xray showed she was so full of food that she was backed up. They gave her subq fluids and an antibiotic just in case she is septic. She has a followup appointment tomorrow. I'll need prayers the next couple of weeks as we adjust her routine! She is a dog that will beat on her bowl if it's not full at all times, I know, I know...but she's a bossy thing. And we have to start feeding the girls separately, thank god for baby gates. I'm glad that I am off work during this time, hopefully that will make the adjustment easier. |

If this was a full blown out bloat this can be very dangerous. |
