HELP-Onion and Garlic Powder!!! OK earlier this evening my little one got some ground beef that was dropped that had been cooked with onion powder and garlic powder. It was about a tablespoon of meat that she ate. I tried to induce vomiting but she wasn't getting anywhere near the peroxide so I wasn't able get her to drink enough to make her vomit. Does anyone have any experience with their little one eating something cooked with garlic or onion powder??? I'm so scared something will happen to my baby!!! |
Was it just seasoned with a sprinkle? Almost certainly won't be a problem. You could check her red blood cell count in a few days to see what's happening, but I wouldn't expect a problem. |
I honestly don't know how much was used. I just know the meat was seasoned with the onion and garlic powders when it was cooked, but I don't know how much of each there was in it. You could definitely taste the seasoning in the meat though. It was a fairly small amount of meat that she got, like I said maybe a tablespoon, but I'm still scared. I would have felt better if the peroxide had worked but she knows that trick so she wouldn't go near it. As far as issues to look for, is it just the typical stomach upset? Is it true that if there is an issue with red blood cells her urine will change color? What a day, first an earthquake and now this! |
If you are still scared you could call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control and see what they say if your vet is unavailable. 1-888-426-4435 is the # I have. |

I actually did contact them. Basically they said since I don't know how much of the powders were used they can't tell me how she will react, if at all. They just said to watch her for the next week for signs of anemia. That is a long time to wait when you are scared you did something stupid and possibly hurt your baby! |
