Neuter without removing testicles? Remy just got neutered yesterday. They didn't remove his testicles, instead he has a few stitches above, which I am guessing they snipped his vas deferens. Is this something new? I was not expecting this because it wasn't discussed. I figured he would be getting a traditional neuter. Does this have the same effects as a regular neuter? To me it seems he would still have hormones because they didn't remove the testicles. Sorry, I am new to this and kind of aggravated that they didn't remove them or at least discussed the procedure thoroughly with me. Thanks. |
They told you that they didn't remove them? I'd assume testicular tumors are very possible later in life then. Wouldn't be happy at all. |

They don't cut them off! So, it might look to you like they are still there. Just give a little squeeze to check and see if they are empty. That is normal to only see a tiny incision. |
So the vet didn't say they didn't remove them? I have NEVER heard of a neuter done that way. Would guess that the incision is just in a different spot than you're used to seeing. And things can look a little weird around there at times with the bulbus glandis. |
Ernie is a larger dog than a Yorkie, but after his neuter, he still had the package, just nothing inside. I could see how a small dog may appear to have testicles. Did you feel them to see if they are really still there? I have never heard of leaving the testicles after a neuter.??? I have heard of implants. |
I would not want them left, especially without the vet discussing the new technique with me! Hopefully they are gone and there is just the saggy skin. A feel will confirm. Tibbe's saggy skin lasted a few months but eventually he went completely smooth there. |
They are for SURE there. My schnauzer got neutered a while back and it looks completely different. I've got three other people to look at it and they say they are there too. So I'm gonna call the vet tomorrow and discuss. This is crazy! I'm on my phone or I would post a picture. |

I'm kinda speechless. Even if this were some new technique for reduction of some complication, that vet should have told you about it up front. Whatever study or premise this was based on has got to be new and not yet that well peer reviewed and you would think it would be fully disclosed to you first. |

I thought it takes time for them to shrink that it doesn't happen right away. My 2 boys were neutered but I don't remember. hen our cat was neutered he still looked like a male cat for weeks until they shrunk. |
Tibbe's testicles were removed and the sack shrank away over time. |
That is not "neutering"...and he will act like an intact male....call and be sure they removed the testes...if so, go to another vet asap..and cancel your payment...but I have a feeling they removed them... The scrotum is swollen after neutering and looks fairly normal...but the "problem makers" are gone and the sack shrinks to normal in a few weeks... |
