My baby's tummy is growling and she is throwing up! Yesterday, I took my 7 month yorkie for a long walk. When we came home, she was throwing up white foam and when I feed her, she would threw up few pieces of her Royal Canine. I took her to the vet and they gave her IV fluid and some medication. Once we got home, I fed her chicken and rice, and she threw some of the food back out. Her tummy will growl (doesn't sound like hunger) and she doesn't want to eat or drink water. She pooped this morning, but she didn't pee at all. What else can I do? Just feed her the medication that the vet gave us? I'm really scared and have no idea what to do. I would gladly appreciate any comments or ideas of what to do! |
Take to an ER vet! Not passing urine is not good, not to mention the other symtoms! |
I agree that if she is not urinating especially after being given fluids something is wrong. I would be taking her to another vet tonight and I hope you have already gone. |
Sounds like what happened with my Chihuahua, Whiskey. There's more then likely a problem with her Kidneys, and you're going to have to make sure she gets an IV of saline(your vet can give it to you, so you can do it at home.) If it is her kidneys, then you're going to end up getting 2 or 3 different pills that you'll have to crush up and put into Gatorade. The gatorade will make sure she's hydrated and give her electrolytes. Always get a second opinion. The family vet that we've been going to for a decade didn't find anything wrong when he was doing tests just told us to make sure he's eating and drinking. Then we went to another vet and found out Whiskey's kidneys were failing. Good luck. |
You may need to do no food by mouth for a day. Your vet can advise you on that. Did they do bloodwork? GI issues and pancreatitis are very common in Yorkies. No need to panic yet. Was she straining to pee or not even trying? If she wasn't trying, then probably dehydrated still. Are you sure it was an IV and not subQ fluids? Either way, she needs to see a vet this morning if you didn't take her last night (unless she has peed and isn't vomiting). |
The vet I took her on Monday didn't even give her a blood test. Only IV fluids and medication. I went to another vet today and got a radiograph. Nothing was wrong with her tummy, cept she has a bit of gas since she wasn't eating much. The vet gave her another IV fluid. When the vet tried to give her a bit of canned food, she threw it up right away. When we got home, she's eating but can't handle too much food. If she eats 5 pieces of Caesars grilled chicken snacks, she will throw up. But if it's one or two pieces at a time, she's fine. She is still drinking honey water and I fed her a bit of honey today. My friends were saying it could be an upset tummy, since she is growling and that her vomit may have damaged her esophagus. I'm going to monitor her for the next couple of days and feed her few pieces per hour and see what I can do. Does anyone else have any recommendations Yes she's peeing fine now. But only poops once for the past 2 days. |
I think dogs get stomach bugs just like we do. My Maxx has had a couple incidents and the vets could not find anything, it came and went away withing couple days and he was back at his old self. |

The 2 times that happened to Maxx, he was back to his normal self in 2 days. Not eating is not a good thing for yorkies, they need to eat. The first time it happened i believe he ate some leaves he was not supposed to eat. But i am not sure. I hope you have better news now. Good evening. |

Chicken bones are a big no-no, and i keep it simple, i was told since the beginning to keep it very simple and i still feed the dry food and use only home cooked chicken breast for treats and snacks, that was my breeder's recipe for treats from when i first got him. I am always pleased as he is very healthy. You will learn more and more and the good news is that she is all better! |
