What a chilling story! So sorry, but glad the ending was positive. Can't believe the ER vet did not give him anything for pain - that was negligence IMO! Blessing for his recovery! |
Very happy for a happy ending! :) |
Just seeing this and so glad Armani is doing okay. Wow, about your local ER. :( |
Just seeing this. When I read the first post, I was so worried about Armani. I would be so upset with the first ER vet. I can't stand incompetence! But, I'm so glad Armani is going to be OK. Maybe the referral to the other clinic was a blessing in disguise somehow. |
Armani is so glad to have such a loving Mommie and Grandmommie! You are the best! |
First off, Poor guy had a long night :( He was crying so much, he could not get comfortable, finally I took the cone off and let him sleep on my pillow- I know, I know! But he was so miserable with it on. When we woke up this morning his eye was totally glued shut- I used a warm compress to open it and put all his meds in, now he is sleeping peacefully, he got another dose of pain meds this morning so that is probably helping. I also called my own vet this morning and made a follow up appointment for later in the week, they will see how is progress is and re-stain the eye to check the healing- I also want to discuss the ER vet situation with them and see what they say because this is the ER vet they recommend (of course it is the only one within a 2 hour radius so they don't have much choice I suppose.) Thanks again for all the well wishes- Armani & I appreciate them. Okay- now I need some opinions. Last night I was petting him a lot, normally he is so crazy I don't get a chance- and I found a scab on him, I cleaned it off and I can see that it was a small, straight cut that has been healing. It was not fresh enough to have happened at the vet and was not a bite or scratch wound that Chloe could have inflicted. Wednesday the two of them went to the groomer- so I am thinking the groomer cut him. She always tells me how great they are and how well behaved they are. This week she said, "Sorry it took so long, but Armani was really knotted and because I had to brush him so much he was really badly behaved". I found it slightly odd that he has been to her so many times and now all of a sudden was bad, but didn't think much of it. Now I understand small cuts happen and everything and maybe since it was under so much hair and pretty small she didn't even notice. But it has me thinking... could she have poked him in the eye with something? a brush, comb, scissor, whatever? and caused this eye issue? Anyone know how long from the initial damage to the eye until it becomes a visible ulcer like this? It is something I am going to discuss with my vet- but just wondered if anyone knew. So now what do I do? I obviously have no evidence she did this- but the timing is kind of fishy? right? or am I looking for someone to blame? be honest. What would you do? |
Poor Armani, I'm sorry he had a rough night. Max's last ulcer, after the doctor did the stain and exam, was really miserable that first night, so you have my sympathy. Within 30 hours, the ulcer healed almost completely. I pray Armani has the same luck. As for the groomer, I would be worried too and discuss it with your vet, but I believe that if the ulcer was the result of traumatic injury, it would have shown by the next day. Three days would be a little long before manifesting itself. It is worthy of note though the unusual behavior, the body cut, and now the eye problem. Is this ulcer in the same eye he had the problem in last fall? |

okay- I thought three days may be too long but I just wondered. |

I was thinking maybe she got him with the brush or something because she said he kept turning around to grab the brush- the injury to the eye was actually on the outermost side of the eye, not in near the nose where should would be using scissors. |

A single piece of cut hair could have gotten in his eye and stayed there for a couple of days and caused an irritation that led to the ulcer. I worry about that when I shave Max's ears. |
I just read this post. Will keep Armani in my thoughts and prayers. I am glad everything is OK, how frightening it must have been for you. Hugs to Armani |
So glad he is starting to get better. Prayers for a fast complete recovery |
