Advice on vomiting please
 

It has been awhile since I last posted as all has been well with our two Yorkies until now. Our 8 month old puppy Carly ended up getting Giardia since she had a tendancy to eat her poo but we have since broken her of that habit. Of course now both dogs have to be treated and have been now for almost three weeks on meds. Funny thing was she never had any symptoms...diarriah etc. Nothing ! It was caught by luck. This however is not the main issue. On Monday Aug. 1st we had the dogs out in the backyard ( first time ever for Carly ). Within a couple of hours as we sat on the deck she did a huge vomit and close inspection showed grass which is common for dogs to eat. But as the day wore on she vomited several more times until it became pinkish with blood. We spent hours in the emrgency vet clinic while they examined her and took x-rays which showed no blockages or other internal problems. We thought maybe she was over medicated since she also got her heartworm meds that same day. At no time did she ever refuse her food, water, or act normal...she was never lethargic. She pees poos normal and you would never know anything is wrong except she is still vomiting a clear to yellowish liquid ( sometimes muckisy ) about every 36 hrs. She had a second set of xrays and blood work...again no blockage and blood is fine. We have had her on a feeding shcedule since this all happened with the ID food in small amounts every 2hrs....she is ravenous and just devours it. There was no vomiting all day yesterday and we thought all is well, but at 2:30 this morning she vomited again this small amount. We have lost lots of sleep this past week listening for the signs and we are at a loss as to what is going on ? Should we feed her more? or are we all missing something? You would never suspect anything was wrong....she is still her puppy self. Sorry to be so long winded but has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be most appreciated.

I would call the vet since she had problems in the past and see if they want you to bring her in.

Did the emergency vet do bloodwork and have you followed up with your regular vet? I would make sure basic lab tests were done first.

Has she been spayed?

How much food are you feeding in a day and how is it being divided among meal times? You indicated you are feeding every 2 hours. If Carly is getting a tiny bit of food every 2 hours and not having any regular meals, that may also be causing a problem. It is a balancing act keeping blood sugar where it should be and keeping the digestive system/metabolism fueled. Many pups cannot go too long without food or they will vomit yellow bile, or have a hypoglycemic attack. On the other hand, keeping the body's systems working non-stop to process and metabolize food is also not good.

Does the vomiting normally occur between midnight and 9 am?

Is she getting anything else to eat or chew other than her prescription diet? If so, hold all other food, treats, chews.

Definitely follow up with your regular vet.

Thanx Maximo... we did follow up with our regular vet and they did the bloodwork and took the second set of x-rays. Blood was fine...no infections etc. and the 2nd set of xrays agian showed no blockages. They seemed baffled as well. At first we fed her half a tablespoon of ID food every two hours as per vet instructions but she was obviously wanting more and was devouring it. Yesterday I started mixing it with her Canin yorkie puppy food in slightly larger amounts and fed her 4 times through the day and evening. She devoured all that. She was last fed at 8:30pm. She Vomited at 2:30am this morning...a light yellowish color...about two tablespoons. This morning, thinking she is still hungry as she is jumping and barking as I make her food I decided to give more this morning.....devourded it. aside from last vomit at 2:30am, they seem totally random...mostly evening. She is as normal as can be otherwise....chasing her brother and being a puppy. She was spayed 2 months ago at 6 months
