Princess has a lump on her back I made another thread about Princess getting kicked by my cousin's 2 y.o. on Sat. 7/30. Aside from being very scared & skittish that day she has seemed like herself. I've touched & rubbed & whatever and she seems unfazed. Last night I was grooming her & noticed a pronounced bump on her back. It's about 4-5" from her tail, on or very near her spine & about 1.75" in diameter. Well that's what they are now that I literally measured, but last night it seemed like it was closer to her tail, so I don't know if it's moved or what. It was extremely late. I do not think it's been here long, it's very obvious by touch & even if I missed it someone else would've noticed. I can't see it thru her hair though. I was starting to think it was my imagination but my mom & sis-who's worked at animal services said it's not normal. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? Could it be related to the incident even though she was kicked kind of underneath & on the side? They did the 5 x-rays on her stomach when she had the pancreatitis a couple of weeks ago-would it maybe be shown on that as her spine was in some of the films? (if it was there then) Maybe it was overlooked due to all the focus on her abdomen, I don't know. Either way she's going to the vet as soon as I can get her in. I have orientation tomorrow & Saturday which leaves me about an hour tomorrow to get her in tomorrow. Hopefully they can get her in & at least have an idea about what it is, I pray it's nothing.:( And I did finally discuss all this with my cousin & asked her if she can help me pay for the vet if it's related to the kick. She didn't give me a definitive answer & now wont take my calls. It was a very civilized conversation, especially now that I'm worried/scared/sad & have put the anger on the back burner. Any insight will be greatly appreciated. |
 Oh my goodness I am so sorry to hear about this! It is so hard with little ones and dogs, I have a lot of nieces and nephews and I try to keep Lucy away from them if I can but it's so hard! :( I hope your cousin does return your calls and I hope this turns out to be nothing. I will pray that all goes well at the vet. Again, so sorry this happened to your little one! Sorry no advice but I hope others will be able to help. Let us know how she is doing! |
Did she recently get a rabies vaccine? |
I will be praying hard for little Princess. Please try not to worry too much and let us know as soon as you can. Will be waiting to hear. Our thoughts are prayers will be with you at the vet's. |

Do you know for a fact she was kicked into something or kicked there and this is a big swollen contusion that maybe is accumulating/holding water? Unless you yourself witnessed the kicks and what happened personally, you can't really know what happened. Or she could have done it to herself escapting and running under a piece of furntiure and bumping her back in her rush to get to safety. This could be a bruise/contusion and will resolve in time. I pray it is nothing more than that and time and some moist heat will take care of it. |

There's no furniture she could've ran under-just the coffee table, but since it's glass top I make in inaccessible when the kids are over. Hopefully it is just a bruise or something else harmless & temporary. It doesn't seem to hurt her, so I don't know. |
Hopefully it is just something she did in the last day or so just being a dog. Since we can't watch them every moment and sometimes they are little daredevils, she could have just contused her back doing Lord-knows-what. Hope that is all it is and is unrelated to the other incident for many reasons. Am sending you both hugs and kisses for the hard week you have had!!! |
How is Princess? Are you able to get her to the vet to check out the bump? |
Ahi and I hope that all is well with Princess. Prayers to you both. Hoping that it's nothing. |
I just got home so I can't take her today or tomorrow but if I can get someone to take her in the morning they'll see her, otherwise I have to wait until I have a day off or get out early but I haven't got my schedule yet. The one vet did say they would've given the vaccine on or near her thigh & not where the bump is. So hopefully we can get it looked at soon. And hopefully it is nothing! |
Took Princess in & the vet said it's just a bump that could've been caused by scraping it on something or falling wrong. He didn't think it would be due to the kicking but now I'm thinking maybe he thought she was kicked from getting under foot & not realizing it was a fully intended punt. He said it's nothing to be worried about but I will probably have it removed if possible, when she gets two baby teeth removed. I don't know if that is possible, though, as it is right above her 6th & 7th vertebrae. Haven't talked to my cousin since I told her about it. But it does bother me that she seemed very uncaring about it before I even said anything about her son or going to the vet, so I don't know. Maybe she knew that was coming, it's hard to say. |
Oh, thank God it is not a tumor or something really, really bad! Whew! So glad to hear it is not a bad diagnosis. Give her a happy hug from Tibbe and me! :) |
