Yogurt works wonders for my babies! It's always been our cure for those unfortunate upset tummy days! Good luck and hope she feels better soon!

That's exactly how Ginger's was! Ginger actually did it on a training pad because I had her in an xpen with her stomach acting up. I cut out that section of pad, put it on a paper plate and covered it with another. I took it to the vet when I took her. I know that's crazy but the vet was thrilled to have the specimen.

One more thing to note with HGE is that if they have had it once, they are more likely to have it again so you have to watch for the signs and get treatment right away. If left untreated, it's fatal.

I hope Betty Boop feels better soon. My Cali has a very sensitive tummy. She has had 2 bouts of HGE and many bouts of diarrhea with mucous and a little blood. When she had the HGE she looked and acted so sick. Sat hunched over and wouldn't eat. Their is a test they can do for HGE I think it is PCV. Hopefully the meds will work and she will be back to normal soon.

Yes.. there is a test. Ginger was tested and it confirmed the HGE diagnosis. Levels of something (can't remember what) register high.

There is no real diagnostic test for HGE; but the hematocrit is elevated when they do the CBC. The diagnosis is made based on symptoms and after ruling out other causes of them.

Good idea! She perked up when her daddy came home today. She seems to be doing better. Still have her on a bland diet. I'll call tomorrow since the vet is already closed.

What function does Lipase play?

Betty Boop's first stool since she was seen at the vet is very very dark, but doesn't appear to be bloody, as the pee pad didn't soak up anything at all. Her temp is 100.1 on my little cheap thermometer. I'm still giving her her meds, but she just looks pitiful and run down. She didn't drink water yesterday, but she drank just a little bit this morning. Her gums feel dry and tacky. I'm calling the vet.

If her gums are dry and tacky, she needs fluids.
Dark stool probably indicates some dried or old blood.

She needs bloodwork done immediately along with possibly an IV depending on what your vet finds on physical exam. If they aren't interested in doing any testing, I'd move on... JMO

I took Betty Boop to the vet earlier. She was not dehydrated, but he did a small amount of IV fluids anyway. He also did a cPL test and it came back NORMAL!!! YES!! He took a sample of her stool and it was very dark still. He said it was digested blood. Ran a test for parasites and there were none. He said give it a couple more days and he thinks she will be back to normal. He gave her Biosol-M for the next few days. Boop seems to be better. Guess I'm an overprotective mommy.

So glad Betty Boop is better. You are a good mommie. I am a worrier when it comes to mine too. I had rather see someone like that though as someone who does not care. Give Betty Boop a hug from Tina, Lexi, Dudley and Kayla.

I am so sorry I'm just seeing this!

I am so glad Betty Boop's test came back normal and she is feeling better. I, too, was recently very relieved to have a normal cPL test after, what, 9-10 days? of freaking out. These pups can make our blood pressure raise ;) You are a GREAT mommy and took care of things when they needed to be done!

Sounds like your vet is fantastic and knew just what to do! :)

I am first seeing this now. I'm so glad that Betty Boop is doing much better. Ashley was on Reglan for about a year. It is not a medication that I was happy about her being on long-term because of the side affects associated with long-term use, but she needed it to maintain a good quality of life. Since she was almost seventeen, our concerns were not as great. It really helped her, and she was not lethargic on it. She still walked at least two miles on most days, and she would have loved to walk more if I wasn't so overprotective. You are a great mom, Lila.

Yes, they sure can worry a mommy at times! She was just like a little baby, wanting to be held. It was the sweetest thing I've ever seen. We both knew I would go to the earth's end for her to get her the help she needed. Thanks to everyone in this thread for your kind words and help. This is a great place!
