Got married, moved, yorkie wont eat anything
 

Ok...
It has been FOREVER since I posted here. But I figured you all would know the best on what to do :)
I got married on July 9, we had a 17-day honeymoon and moved into our apartment on the 23rd. My Yorkie, six-year-old Bubba, moved in with us this past Saturday. When he was at my parents he had four cats and another Yorkie (Tyke) around, so I wonder if he misses his brother:(
Bubba hasn't eaten much at all since Saturday. A bite here and there. I am in the process of retraining him and taking him out every two hours and giving him a treat everytime he goes (which is everytime he goes out) and he will take a treat and eat it like someone will steal it in a few seconds. He is drinking. What is odd is he is having bowel movements, but he isn't eating that much :confused:
I called the vet and they asked if I wanted to bring him in to make sure he was OK, but I know it's because he is "homesick" for my parents house. They suggested putting chicken broth over his food, so I did that. He sniffs and walks away. We had pasta tonight so I dribbled a teaspoon of sauce over his food, he sniffed it and walked away. I put his soft food in, nothing. He sniffs and walks away.
How long can a Yorkie go before lack of eating will make them sick? Should I take him to the vet or is it one of those "he will eat when is hungry" things?
I'm worried! I love my dog and my husband loves him and I want him to stay with us in the worst way...but not if he is unhappy and starving himself :(

Maybe he needs a friend, can his brother come live with him? I think he is just lonesome and needs to get used to all the recent events. Give him a little boneless, skinless white meat chicken. Congratulations on you marriage, sorry to hear your baby is sad.

Maybe you could try taking him back to your parents house & see if he eats normal then. If you do this & he eats then you know he's ok but if he doesn't eat then he needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. I would not wait too long though.

Maybe he's getting finicky cause of all the potty treats? Have you tried giving him stella and chewys dehydrated raw? Our dog are that stuff up when he was finicky. Seems like its tasty to them.

It sounds like just a lot of changes and he is trying to adjust. He probably do miss his playmates. I do suggest to take him to the vet if it is getting you too worried to ease your mind.

I think he will adjust. They are so emotional. Have you tried tiny, tiny little pieces that he can eat from your hand? That works for us sometimes.

I agree with lillymae - see if he eats well back at your parent's house.

If NOT, then he is ill and should be seen right away.

I know it doesn't take much for Lucy to go off her food. If I go away for a night and hire a petsitter - they usually tell me they had to feed her by hand or she would eat nothing at all.

My friend had this problem when we moved from CO and she relocated to FL. Her Yorkie, like my Toto, is a spoiled rotten little Diva Brat and it was unbelievable how she acted. She had gone through so many changes for about a year and everything in her life was upside down. She hated the new house that my friend bought and began peeing/pooping everywhere, not eating ... it was heartbreaking. I suggested that she find and unpack all of her brat's "things" with all the smells, etc. of her happy, familiar home. She also kept kibble available to her just in case she did get hungry between regular feedings. After she had all the things familiar to her all around the house, she began to gradually become her old self but it took a long time. Now, she is the sassy, queen of the house again and things are normal and she is eating, pottying and ordering everyone around! :thumbup::thumbup:

you can try to give him some nutrycal every couple hours to give him a little more energy and entice his appetite a little, better than people food and it is rich in vitamins.
it usually works and in a few days when he is back to his old self you can stop the nutrycal supplement.
