Lucy keeps vomiting bile We were out of town over the week-end and returned home on Tuesday. I had petsitters coming 4 times a day and they said everything was fine; they both played and ate. The petsitter fell in love with Lucy and said she was so 'spunky'. Lucy vomited bile in the middle of the night on Tuesday night and again on Tuesday morning. She then ate her breakfast with no problem. She was fine all day and I gave her some plain boiled chicken and rice to settle her stomach for dinner. I didn't take her for a walk. Again, she was fine all evening and all night - but she vomited bile again this morning when she went out to potty. I gave her a little more chicken and rice for breakfast. She is eating, playing, drinking. What could be causing this? Just the empty stomach? Do you think she requires a vet visit at this point? I have a little Pepcid AC that they gave her at the ER vet - remember when she licked tar off her feet and got so ill? I could give her 1/4 of one of those if anyone thinks it will help. |
Yes, more than one vomiting session and my dog's 4 feet are standing on the vet's exam table just in case. |
For piece of mind I would at least call and tell them what is going on. I am guessing they would want to check her out. This could get bad very fast. Jmo. |
I'd make sure she gets a nice sized snack before bed. If that doesn't work, then yes, it most likely requires the vet. It sounds like bile and so this wouldn't be too abnormal. |
Doesn't Lucy have MVD? Did the petsitters give her any treats? |

Yeah, if she wasn't holding down meals, I'd feel differently, but a little tummy bile in the early morning hours isn't considered dangerous. |
I guess I am just very nervous about anything right now. Lexi went down so very fast. I would not take the chance. Praying it's nothing and she is okay |

I'm off today; taking Matt to pick up his new retainer and then I believe I'll just call the Vet to give myself peace of mind. She could have gotten into something ~ she eats anything - qtips, etc. I'll just see if they want to see her. I'll update after I speak with them. Thanks for your kind thoughts! I'm sure my vet looves to see me coming! Between Lucy and Ringo - we've probably financed his new boat :) |
Our Ginger vomits bile if she doesn't have food available. We used to put the food and water up at night and she would frequently vomit bile towards morning. Since we left food and water down all the time she only very rarely vomits the bile anymore. She actually does eat and drink a little in the middle of the night. We can hear her out there crunching away a lot of the time. |
Update Called the Vet. He said if it is only yellow bile to see how she does in the morning and bring her in if it happens again. To give her a little snack before bed and see if that helps. She's been fine today - eating, drinking, driving Ringo crazy. I'm going to give her a little of her kibble in with her chicken and rice this evening. I can't leave food down 24/7 because Ringo would just eat it all - so we have scheduled feeding times. I am going to try a little snack before bed. Do you think a little (tiny) piece of American cheese would be ok? She loves that but I don't want to give her something that could accidently upset her stomach. If not that - she also loves apple or cheerios. |
I sure hope a bedtime snack helps Lucy. :) I have had this issue with Maddie before if her feeding times were off schedule of something. It was always just bile and a cookie before bedtime solved the problem. |
How is Lucy doing? |

I hope she is doing well this morning, no bile. Teddy did this for awhile when he was a boney pup with a super fast metabolism. I gave him a few pieces of kibble before bedtime and that fixed the problem. |
No bile this morning! Took her for a short walk last night (it was so HOT) and gave her a snack when we got home; it was around 9:45. Ooops Maximo - I did get her a bit of American Cheese. Anyway, so far so good - nothing this morning. Of course now I think Ringo has a skin infection. So I will probably be headed to the Vets office anyway! |
