My baby's leg! I feel so bad and worried. My baby Ahi was playing on my bed and she fell off while running around. She has fallen and jumped off my bed before with no problems. I have a futon bed and its only a foot off the ground. And my floors are padded carpet. She must of fell wrong and hurt her hind left leg. When I looked at her she tried to get up and wouldn't put her leg down. My heart started beating a hundred mph. She didn't cry or anything and just looked at me. I scooped her up and gently checked her out. She would let me touch every part of her leg, from her foot to her hip and wouldn't flinch or cry. In fact she let me massage her flank softly..I think she liked it. She now can walk but won't put her whole weight on that leg. I've called her Vet and they said to just crate her today, no playing or walking and only let her out to relieve herself and eat. She actually has an appt. scheduled for tomorrow for some shots. I guess cause it doesn't seem that bad they said they would see her then. Has anyone else have their baby get a pulled muscle or bruise and then turn out fine? I'm just so worried. I called my hubby at work and he told me even though it was just a foot fall it's like 100 feet to her cause she's so little. It just makes me feel so bad. I know it happens but I feel like a bad mama. :( |
I have had mine hurt a leg and limp on it and it was just a sprain. But it can also be a luxating patella so it is a good thing you are taking Ahi in to the vet tomorrow. Make sure you keep her crated or immobile until the vet can check her out. Hopefully it is just a sprain or a sore leg. |
I'm sorry this happened to your little one. It is heartbreaking for sure, we simply don't want anything to hurt them. :( It was an accident, not your fault, don't beat yourself up. You are doing everything right and getting to vet checked tomorrow. Sending good thoughts that it will be just a sprain and will be back to normal soon. |

On a side note I guess it's a good sign that she is still using the leg to scratch herself. Just won't put too much weight on it when standing. |
So sorry about Ahi's leg. She is so tiny and fragile, even minor things can hurt her. Glad the vet can check her out. My Tiki fell off my bed and sprained her leg when she was about 8 months old, and she was much bigger, probably around 6 lbs. then. It did heal, although I think it is splayed outward a little. Another member on YT just went thru a broken leg on his pup (also larger) and it cost over $3,500, and 2 months of confinement. Sure hope that doesn't happen to your little one. Don't mean that to scare you, but do especially let your kids know how extremely careful they need to be with her. I'm praying she will be fine, and please keep us updated, ok? Hugs to ya too. |
I've had an issue with my Max two times with the most recent being last week. He fell off the bed and he was holding up his back leg. He seemed to walk ok but if he picked up any speed he would begin limping. Since this was his 2nd issue the vet and I decided not to xray it and just give him Medicam and crate rest. 4 days of STRICT crate rest and he's all better. Sometimes they fall wrong and just pull a muscle. The first time we took xrays but everything was fine. That time it took about a week of crate rest. Hopefully for Ahi it's no big deal either. Just keep her as still as possible and very inactive. |

My kids are extremely careful with her. I run a home daycare and have had many newborn babies some as early as 2 weeks old. They know how I emphasize on being gentle. Even more so with a puppy so tiny. They love her to pieces too. My youngest is 5 so she understands about being careful around her. I don't think I would have gotten Ahi if my DD was any younger. During my open hours Ahi stays in my bedroom or has full range of my kitchen which is gated. She prefers to stay in the kitchen cause it's cooler and of course she knows that's where the food is at. LOL Thanks for your prayers and I'll post tomorrow after her doctors appt. |

She has a pizzle and some of her favorite toys with her in there. I do need to run to the pet store which is just down the road from me and get her a kong and (hehe) bully stick.( I recently read that thread lol) Do they make the kong that small? I know I have to really be strong because she gives me those tiny whimpers which is sadder than actual cries and those darn puppy eye looks. I just keep telling her "mommy loves you" and give her air kisses. lol My hubby teases me that i'm over reacting.(all in fun to make me feel silly) But then he does baby talk to her. |
I hope the appointment goes well today! |
Good luck today with the appointment! :) |
Stuff happens. My first poodle was right at a pound when I got her. She stepped off of a little chair that was literally 12" tall and broke her leg. Because one of my other dogs that is a 14# poodle has hurt his back jumping on and off my bed,she is not allowed to jump on my bed or off of it. Again stuff happens and you are being a great mommy, taking good care of your baby. Let us know how what the vet has to say. |
Hi everyone. Well I'm happy to say that nothing is broken. She must have just lightly sprained it or pulled a muscle a little. She still doesn't put total weight on it but tries to play like nothing is wrong. Doc said to try and not let her run around on it for a week and it should be back to normal. She walks fine but a little wobbly...but she was always wobbly. lol When she seen me eating cheese she actually stood on her hind legs like a circus dog for a few seconds. lol I'm so happy but now I think i'm going to be paranoid that she will hurt herself again. Thank you all for your well wishes. Your support honestly helps. Oh btw...she has gained 3 oz.! She now weighs in at 1lb. 1oz. LOL She also had her second set of shots. I forgot how many she is supposed to have. Do you remember? They also wanted to start her on preventative heart worm meds(I think that is what it was) because we have a lot of mosquitos in Hawaii...tropical weather and all. But they don't want to until she is at least 2lbs. |
Thank goodness she is ok. I understand your paranoia, seeing that she is only 1 lb. 1 oz./ wow that is tiny. Good luck, and hope everything goes well from here on. |
