UTI's and Belly Bands
 

Hey everyone. So, I'm pretty sure my baby has a UTI. I'm getting him to the vet this afternoon, but I'm wondering if anyone here uses belly bands, and has had an issue with UTI's at all?

I leave a belly band with a pad in it on my little guy when I'm at work because he's not fixed and likes to mark the couch when I'm away. (my roommates couch rather)

Last week he pulled the belly band off, and had chewed through the pad...then in the last 24 hours has turned a bit lethargic, and seems very uncomfortable. He keeps licking his private area, and drinking lots of water, and seemed to have a fever last night possibly. He kept wanting to lay very close to me also.
Poor little guy.

Anyway, I'm wondering what the connection could be to a belly band and if anyone has had any issues with them causing problems? :(

So sorry to see your little one isn't doing very well.

You are smart getting him into the vet asap. Things can happen so quickly with these little dogs.

As far as belly bands go, I can't imagine that it would be part of the cause of the problem. Maybe being chewed up and injesting some of the product might be but not the wearing of the belly band itself. Just be sure it isn't too tight. He might be fighting the band because of the need to clean himself if he isn't feeling well, and has an irritation in that area. Poor Baby.

I also think that it's more likely to be something he ingested. I'd get him to the vet asap! Keep us posted and good luck!

I do know it possible to get UTI's if Belly Bands are left on for long periods of time without being changed to a clean pad. I know when I had a male that we adopted he did were belly bands, when ever I changed pad's I also cleaned his penis area really good with a wipe.

Thats what I think too...he is in the band 8 hours without changing the pad or cleaning his penis...like a baby if a diaper is left on to long while wet or poop in it, they get a diaper rash....I bet the uti is from wearing the band way to long without changing the pad....I would get a play yard and confine your little man to that during the day...that way he can't mark anywhere and if he does have to potty he can on a potty pad.

Yes, good idea. xpens are great. I have the 24 in and now I see they have them 18 in. I wish that is what I had, and have thought of investing in the 18 in also. I could have one on each floor or one out in front yard which isn't fenced, when I am out working on the flower beds. The one I have has a travel case and I take it with me whenever I travel or visit friends so there won't be 'accidents' in someone elses home. Naughty doggies:p

Yeah I used to have him in an Xpen during the day, but I really used that when I used to have carpet. My place has wood floors so I hadn't' thought about it much but that may be a good idea to go back to that. Also to wipe down his penis with a baby wipe after removing the belly band. All great ideas I wish I had thought of these before! :X I'm not the most thoughtful dog mommy sometimes oops :(

Winston is going into the vet in about an hour so we'll see how that goes.

all is well :) Vet said he's in great healthy shape minus a bit of a UTI as suspected. Gave him some meds, and he was happy as could be on the ride home LOL

I have 2 play yards cause I have a 2 story home...I got a small 24x44 first, but after a few weeks I realized I needed a larger play yard for down stairs so I didn't have to carry the other up and down, So I order the 36x57 play yard for down stairs..its huge but I love it and so do the kids LOL.

I use the small one now for just travel...like you so they don't try and mark in someone's home...all are spayed/neutered but for doggie reasons...LOL they will try and mark in my brothers house and my BFF's house cause they have dogs too...little stinkers:p

This is the play yards (soft side) got both off Ebay...I paid 45.00 for the small 24x44...75.00 for the large 36x57...I really like the play yards better than the metal xpens...cause the play yards have floors in them so you can set them up anywhere even a room with carpet and not worry about them missing the potty pad...very easy to clean and they have a zip up top on them for those little climbers...some like my large 36x57 the floor can be removed by a zipper if you want to take them outside...they are very lite and easy to move around....my small one, the floor doesn't come out of that one...very easy to store and travel with, they flold up flat...taking no space at all and they come with carrying cases.

They came in all colors and sizes

Wow those are great. I'm going to get the larger one. I love the fact that it will be light weight, a removable bottom and a zipper top! The zip top will be great at our new home because there are eagles, and owls there and I can put them outside and feel safe. I had never heard of these. :thumbup:

your welcome!!...I got mine off ebay...I was in pet smart friday and seen they have the 24x44 now, that I only paid 45.00 for on ebay and they want 80.00 bucks for it :eek: I paid 75.00 for my large 36x57...ebay, no biding for it and I got free shipping for both and I got them within a few days of ordering.
