limping for a few hours now... Why oh why do dogs, especially yorkies, have to have such bad knees?? Well Lana was attacking her toy as she loves to do and began yelping in pain! After finally calming her down we got her to attempt to walk. She is no longer whinning or whimpering but is limping really bad. She is currently lying in her bed right next to mine but I can't sleep because I keep checking on her. Is there anything I can give her for pain? Additionally we have her dental cleaning set up for Thursday. I guess its too early to tell if we should cancel it but any thoughts about that at this point? I am so sad. I don't think I will ever get a pet again. I can't handle them in pain. I can't stand it! I don't even think she is in much pain but I'm terrified that she will be worse in the morning. |
She needs to see the vet asap to see what is going on. It could be LP, but it usually doesn't present with that much pain or limping out of nowhere. Could be a sprain/strain/pull, CCL tear, hip issue. No pain drugs at home for humans should be used contrary to the opinion on the internet. |

good luck |
Aww, poor Lana. I'm glad you made an appointment. I'll be waiting here for your update. |
It's pretty safe to say that she is in a great deal of pain. 3:30 will be here shortly though. :) |
Home from the Vet Well, all they could determine is that it is NOT her knee/hip/leg, thank goodness!!! We think it is actually her toe nail maybe pulled away from the skin. Her second nail seems to get the reaction from her. So she is now floating in la la land on pain killers. Which, by the way, were a chore to get down her! Lol. Thanks for all your help/support/concern!! |
Oh this is great news! You seemed a bit scared in your initial post, so I'm hoping you feel some relief. |
Just the words "Her knee seems nice and tight" and after clarification of what that meant...those words made it all better. She is still limping poor girl, and her sister (bichon) doesn't understand why she can't play!! I am so relieved to know it is nothing too serious at this point. Since they are both getting their dentals done on Thursday if there is still a problem, they can further investigate when she is under. Thanks again! |
Glad you got some good news. :) Hope she is feeling better soon. |

One good thing is that she will heal and be ok. I know that their are different grades to LP.. |

She is still limping a bit but she is putting some weight on it. She just doesn't like carpet/rugs right now. I thnk it must put pressure on her nail. So she is sleeping right now on the tile floor...poor girl. For now, just pain killers is all the vet gave her. |
