Wally ate a grape!! I was washing grapes thast I just bought from the store and 1 rolled onto the floor and Wally just grabbed it. I picked him up so quickly but he must have eatten it whole:eek:. Will he be ok??? I'm a little freaked out!!:( |
One should be fine, but you should call your vet and see if they want you to induce vomiting. |
Before I knew dogs couldn't eat grapes my husband use to give one to the dogs occasionally. After I learned they could not have them , I called the vet and they told me that small amount would not harm them just not to give them anymore. |
Suzi has done that before.. I felt so bad! I was eating them while at the computor and one slipped , landed on the floor, before I knew it , She already ate it. I did not think much about it, but now I do remember they are on the danger list:eek: When Suzi ate cooked onions after they fell on the floor I did get panicky though.. She was fine , thankfully. |
Those grapes can roll...can't they??? Wally is just so fast... like lightening. He is fine. All 4 of them just had baths. I will keep my eye on him though. |
I think one should not do anything. snopes.com: Raisins and Grapes Harmful to Dogs This says that several can cause issues, but one should not do anything. However if your pup is really tiny it can't hurt to call the vet or take him in! |

Grapes won't cause an immediate and noticeable reaction. They can send a pup into kidney failure which can't always be observed right away. One grape is not considered toxic to an average sized Yorkie, but there is no minimum toxic amount known. So the dog's vet should always be the one to decide that vomiting doesn't need to be induced. They have different comfort levels. |
Oh thank you I didn't know that. Thank goodness it was only 1, it's been over 24 hrs so I think he's out of the woods. It's always nice to know that you are there when we have a question. You're the best!! :thumbup: |

Before I learned it was bad for them, I use to feed my previous Yorkie grapes all the time. :eek: She LOVED them. I'd cut them in half and give her quite a few. (And apples too.) She lived to be almost 18 yrs old and weighed 5 lbs. Am so grateful it didn't hurt her. Poor Heidi, I am always paranoid to give her anything but top tier dog food. |

Gracie used to eat an occasional grape or two until I found out that she was not supposed to eat them. She actually is quite a fruit eater. I think it would take a few grapes to make you baby sick unless he has some sort of condition. |
Are Grapes and Raisins Really Toxic? - Page 1 10-12 grapes are thought to be toxic to a 20 pound dog which is 1 grape per every 2 pounds. Some Yorkies are 2 pounds, so 1 grape has the possibility to be toxic in some cases. Most vets would be fine with it. Some aren't. Even in my 6 pound girl who has had grapes before, I would induce vomiting for just 1. To each their own, but only a vet should decide if it's not a toxic dose. |
My dad has always given the dogs grapes, before I told him they were toxic. Lilly, their JRT/Shihtzu mix, has probably eaten a lot of grapes in her lifetime, lol. They never did anything to her. But yeah, thankfully, Jackson won't eat them anyways but I told my dad no more. |
