I would go to Home Depot and find out if there is a non toxic spray for fleas and ticks to spray your yard. I think they do carry something that is. Then, I would keep him bathed and use Advantage or Frontline on him. Good luck. Welcome to YT. |
frontline carries different type of treatments right? is there one that you recommend? and thanks for the welcome! |
I would let the vet recommend one. Some use Frontline or Frontline plus. They have come out now with Comfortus, which is in pill form. The vet would really be the one I would ask to recommend something for your baby. I use Advantage because we had a bad experience with Frontline. Not everyone does. One of my yorkies is 4lbs. and I am very careful what I put on him. We have never had a problem with Advantage. He is so little that we just use 1/2 tube on him. |

I too would freak  if I found a tick on Zhoie...hate those things. My vet recommended Frontline Plus when she was a puppy and we put it on monthly. Seems to work just fine, never had a tick yet (knock on wood). This year I had TruGreen treat just my fenced in area of our backyard too. They said to keep her off the grass for couple hours until dry...but I did'nt take her back out there all day, lol. I would definitely find something to use though, I've heard they can get sick from ticks, like tick fever or something. |

Female ticks that have fully matured lay their eggs on the ground, usually in the spring. When the temperature and moisture levels rise, the eggs hatch and thus become known as larvae. The larvae are about the size of a period. The first host for the larvae is usually small, such as a rodent. The larvae feed off the blood of this host for a couple of days and then fall off when finished. I have personal experience in knowing that it's like 187 degrees in aridzona....lol. I call it Hell, and not just because my ex husband (aka the spawn of Satan) lives there. |
Advantage does not prevent ticks...Advantix does. You really should speak with your vet about which product to use. He needs to be seen by a vet and checked out thoroughly anyway if he has been bitten by ticks. There are many diseases that ticks carry. |
My understanding is that national home deffense for the yard works very well and is suppose to be safe for pets. My friend that used it said she still used the front yard for the day instead of the back where she sprayed |
I just moved from Phoenix to Korea, and I was a home health nurse, the family I Worked for had a huge back yard that was fenced and everything and the dogs got tics... BAD. for a whole year they were finding ticks in the house and in the yard. when I left the situation was still out of control. Is there someone who can professionally spray in and around your house? I dont know about dogs, but I had a large tics on my leg. When I found it I pulled it off and it left a rather large scar. Yes they carry disease such as lyme disease and rocky mountain fever. The best way to find out of they catch that is take the tic in once it has been removed. Good luck I hope the problem gets resolved. |
You will need to get a preventative for your dog like everyone is saying. I would also look into have your yard treated. I believe there are services that you can get on a monthly basis. I have a service that sprays my entire property 3x a season. The community as a whole was getting it done. Which was nice. Now only a couple of homes are not, foolish in my opinion where we live. Fortunately both the neighbors beside me get it done. Good luck and you should always do a tick check when you come back inside. I do this by picking them up and very excitedly saying, ticky, ticky check and the dogs not only think I've lost my mind:rolleyes: but think its a game. Good luck. |
Because our dogs go places we use Frontline. If we have been gone I also check them every evening for ticks. Our backyard is sprayed once every spring,we use the frontyard for a day or two, then the frontyard is sprayed. I dont think that I have ever found a tick on any of the dogs. I really hate those things! |
I was wondering about wondercide the cedar oil stuff that might work for the ticks, supposed to be good for fleas and all that stuff, check it out online |
I've used Frontline Plus for fleas and ticks for many years and have never pulled a tick off our dogs. Never had a flea either. Your baby should be seen by a vet as others have suggested. |
I use Advantix II In fact I just bought some yesterday. I put it on my babies the beginning of the month. |
