Throwing up bile? So I posted awhile ago about Bailee throwing up bile several times a day.I realized I was keeping her food too long because she eats so little and the kibble was going bad. I started buying it more frequently and throwing and out after 4 weeks no matter how much is left. That seemed to help tremendously! However, the past week it has started again...Her tummy is really rumbly and she is throwing up bile. Nothing but bile. I just can't figure it out. The vet reccomended pepcid in super small doses, but I am concerned that isn't truly fixing the problem as to why she is producing bile... |
What do you feed her? She may be like my Rosie, one with a very sensitive stomach. We have problems with throwing up and bowels. I ended up doing what my vet recommended. I put her back on the Science Diet I/D. It seems to work for her. Our issues have gone completely away. Maybe the food is causing her some issues. Another reason could be too long of time in between feedings? If Rosie goes to long some times she will throw up a yellow foamy bile. |
Bile comes from an empty stomach...she needs to eat more often. You can freeze kibble...I would add veggies, cottage cheese etc to her diet..or buy the fresh food they keep cold in the pet store...and to kibble. |
she eats Natural Balance allergy formula because she has has grain allergies...I free feed because she really doesn't eat alot at all so I let her eat whenever, she just doesn't eat alot...Do you think thats a sign of anything? Also, great tip about freezing kibble, that is very helpful to know!! |
I add a little can food to Rosie's bowl. It seems to make her more interested in eating. Honestly, she is very picky. If she didn't like a food I had then she wouldn't eat it. I used to always hear if they are hungry enough they will eat it. Well, I don't think they ever met my Yorkie. :) |

I did not know she had alllergies..I would still try veggies as treats..like cooked carrots, green beans, peas.. |

I may try canned, I just am concerned about its effect on her teeth ( they are already not the greatest to begin with because some stupid vet pulled too many leaving gaps to trap things) veggies sound good, they may scrape against her teeth and keep them cleaned better than canned? thanks for the tips, it makes me feel better knowing it probably isn't that serious. If it gets worse though, there will defintely be a vet trip in her future! |
Rosie loves loves green beans. :D I was shocked! So really do give it a try. She would not touch carrots at all. And I have not tried the peas. But I will!! :) |
I haven't tried veggies in a while...when she was a puppy I gave her some broccoli. I turned my back and the next thing I know, she had shredded it all over my floor...it looked like grass growing my living room. She thought it was a toy I think lol:rolleyes: |
Bile vomit on a regular basis combined with rumbling tummy sounds are indicative if IBD and/or pre-pancreatitis. I would highly recommend bloodwork to check her lipase and amylase just to be on the safe side. If there is a problem, the sooner it is addressed, the easier it will be to manage. A limited ingredient food with a single protein source and no grain is also a very good idea. |

I would definitely agree that this dog should have a chemistry blood profile done including a liver profile. Pepcid is useful but you need to know the cause of the symptoms. |
