Mucus redish poops :( HELP!
 

Hello everyone. I know I have not had a lot to add to the board since I joined but I am sure I am not the first to reach out for help in a troubling situation. Thank you in advance. Sampson is almost 2. He is a 5 lb Yorkie.

I am worried. Since early this morning Sampson threw up (just once). His poop is the major concern. he has a troubling version of the squirts. It is mucusy and reddish and thick in consistency. Sampson spends half days at a good doggie daycare with large and small dogs. He eats human grade food (soft). His nose is wet, his eyes are bright and he seems a bit tired now having not really eaten much in the last 24 hours.Hwe is drinking some water but has no interedt in eating at all. I have never seen him with poop like this before...

I am worried the reddish texture may be blood :( Its not bright red and seems more mucusy than anything, no clots - I would say its more tinged reddish/brownish at this stage.

Any insight would be helpful. I am watching very closely and will be booking an appointment with the vet for Saturday morning... or the emerg vet if things get worse.

I would be worried that's he's come in contact with something contagious from one of the other dogs or people.

I'm of the better safe than sorry camp and would be visiting the vet, ASAP! And honestly, if he isn't drinking or eating and is throwing up with diarrhea, I don't know that i would wait til Saturday. I would be going tomorrow. One day of being dehydrated can make a world of difference, especially in smaller dogs.

If he's getting weak I'd get him to the ER Vet ASAP. Diarrhea can cause severe, acute dehydration which can be life threatening.

I would get him checked out ASAP since it could be blood and that could be something minor like an irritated tummy or something that requires immediate attention. One of mine was throwing up and pooping mucusy bloody poop and had HGE. A hemmoragic gastro enteritis. She needed fluids and Iv's for a few days. I feel it is better to not take any chances since these guys are so little. I hope he feels better soon.

You need to take him to the vet. You are correct,the red tint in his poop could be blood. Mucus in the stool isnt a good sign either. I could be a virus that he contracted.

Not much change this a.m. will be off to the vet in short order this morning. He continues to poop in a similar fashion. He is quiet but alert and his nose is wet and eyes are bright. He is not expelling anything in great quantities which is good and he has gotten up off the bed to do it this morning (which is good I think because he did not have an accident which might be caused by infection). He is also still drinking water.

Pleas let us know if you take him to the vet and what they tell you. Prayers and Hugs.

See if he was given any kind of new redish brown dog treat or colored rahide or chew or bully stick in the not so distant past. I've had where anything rough can iritate their stomachs even pig ears or anything like that. It comes out pretty much the same color that it went in.

Im a nurse, not a vet but just for reference bright red blood usually indicates a lower GI bleed like maybe an intestinal problem and brown, or blood that isn't so red indicates that its something in the something or upper intestines. I would still take him in to get checked, especially if its an ulcer or something like that.
when I brought my pups home and changed their food, they had mucousy poop that lasted a few days. I hope your guy gets better soon~
