I'm sorry to hear about Teddy and Barney. I'm glad Teddy is feeling better. I hope Barney will be on the mend soon. |
How scary! I know nothing about eye problems but I am so glad you brought him in quickly and that he is feeling better! I hope Barney gets well too. |
update on Barney I took Barney in and my vet did not find anything wrong with him on exam and said he looks great. But, we ran a urinalysis to see if he has an infection. My vet said male dogs with UTIs usually have other symptoms and UTIs in males are not as common as females. So he thinks it might be something Barney ate and asked me about asparagus LOL. I said no asparagus, he has been eating zucchini and celery. Then I tried to argue that Teddy eats the same diet and has no stinky urine but that failed as he said everyone is different. I brought the pee pad with me because he had no other symptoms and my vet did agree it smelled funky. I just know what my dog's pee smells like and it just doesn't smell right. Uggh... |

Did your vet charge you double for making him smell the pee pad? Ugh, hope you can figure out what is going on. |

I hope both of your babies are feeling better now!!! :) |
Teddy & Barney update Good news on Barney - no urinary infection, cause of smelly urine unknown but we are going to see what happens in a few days. If the smell continues, we will do a short course of antibiotics. Good and Bad News on Teddy. The good news is that his eyes are healing nicely and the abrasions did not show up with the eye stain so my vet was very happy with the eyes. The bad news is that Teddy has an enlarged spleen and we will be doing additional diagnostics and possibly a specialist visit to find out what is going on there.:( |
Happy about the good news but sorry about the bad... :( I hope everything turns out okay!! Hugs from us to you and yours!!! |
Cathy I'm sorry to hear about Teddy. I know nothing about enlarged spleens and don't ever remember reading about this in the forum. I hope you can find answers quickly. |
Prayers for little Teddy. |
I will keep Teddy in my prayers. |
Sending prayers for little Teddy. |
Way to go Cathy for being so on top of things with these two. I will be sending up prayers for Teddy. |
My poor baby Marley. It's pretty scary. I had to take Marley in this morning because he also got an eye ulcer, but only on his left eye. Right now he's on medication, and is wearing an e-collar. The doctor said it was only a minor abrasion, and he has a followup appointment in 2 days. I'm hoping he'll be okay. I just feel very nervous seeing him that way :( |

I think our new 13 mo. old scratched my 4 year olds eye I remember before bed last night that our new Maltese pup (Nala) and my 4 year old Yorkie (Miley) were playing roughly. This is not uncommon, but this morning we got up and went potty as usual. Then, about 15 minutes later, I sat down to do some work and I noticed Miley had her left eye shut. I can barely get her to let my pry it open to look if I could see anything. She is lying here next me sleeping now. She can't seem to get comfortable. She is constantly trying to reposition her head. She has opened her eye a little but squints. There is no discharge that I can see either. All I can figure is Nala may have scratched her eye last night and I never noticed it. Also though, Nala brought kennel cough home with her from the pet store. The vet treated her with a round of antibiotics. It is much better but she still coughs or reverse sneezes seldomly. Miley has always done that. Especially when she gets excited so I don't think she is coughing like she was. Well after Nala finished her meds. Miley started coughing. It wasn't her usual reverse sneezing she has always done. I noticed her nose is very runny, also. All the time. So, I took her to the vet and they gave her the same antibiotics Nala had. She finished it Saturday and seems to be better except her nose it still very runny. I can't help but wonder if that may have something to do with it. Oh, and last night, I didn't hear Miley cry or anything. I figure she would cry if her eye got scratched, but I don't know. So now, she is keeping her eye shut and her nose it still very runny. I can't get into the vet today unless they call with a cancellation. What should I do in the mean time? Is there an over the counter antibiotic ointment I can get? What was it called that Teddy had? Thank you so much for any suggestions you can provide. I'm worried. After reading about Kennel cough on here, I'm starting to worry about an upper respiratory infection or pneumonia setting in both of my fur-babies lungs. Especially Miley b/c her nose is still very runny. The vet never did X-rays but I guess they know better than me. I hope I'm worrying too much. Anyways, Any info on ointment for Miley's eye would help tremendously. |

call another vet if yours cant get you in. One night we night we noticed chachi pawing at his eye. The next morning the eye was completely white and we were concerned he had gone blind. It was a hole in the cornea or a corneal ulcer. It is serious and painful |
Thank you very much!! All of you! I'm taking her at 2:30. Can't come soon enough. |

Hi Cathy, I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to your Teddy. I hope that his eyes heal up quickly. This happened to my Mica when we were in Palm Desert for the winter two years ago. It was just one eye though. They said it was a corneal tear. The prescribed this corneal bath solution and I had to flush her eyes with it every two hours while she was awake for seven days. They saw her in follow up and thank goodness it had totally healed up. I was thinking it was some sort of desert plant that got in her eye but never really knew what caused it. :( |

Cathy, I can't believe I've missed this whole thread! I'm glad Teddy's eyes are healing, but I'm very sorry to see he has an enlarged spleen. I'll keep little Teddy in my prayers. |
This is old news. Teddy got over his corneal abrasions with fat treatment and his enlarges spleen was normal after a specialist examined him and ultrasounded his organs. Thank goodness :) |
