Can a 5 month old female yorkie get pregnant by a 6 month old yorkie? Please help! My female yorkie was playing for the first time with a friend`s male yorkie. I noticed they were just playing and smelling each other but i`m not sure if anything else happened with them. She didn`t have her first 'heat' yet. At least i didn`t notice any blood or anything yet, but i`m a bit worried if she could get pregnant by this age or not. Is it possible that she could have her first heat without any noticeable blood flow?? Do you think spaying would be a good idea for her and when should i do it?? Please help if you know anything about this issue!! |

5 months is a little young to come in heat. my two didn't have their first heat until they were a year old. I don't think I would worry about it. |
If you don't want to have to worry about an 'oopsie' pregnancy; then I would definitely consider getting your girl spayed. |
Gosh, I hope not.... |
Prudence, yes at 5 months you should be taking her to the vet and scheduling her for a spay. 6 months is a good age for getting spayed, but depending on her size, this is something that you should be discussing with your vet and pronto!!! A male dog will know when she is in heat way before the tell tale signs are apparent to you, especially if you are not familiar with them. Blood is not always obvious, especially if they clean themselves pretty good. Some females are very good about this and the owners don't always notice. If you are not planning on breeding her and don't want an accidental pregnancy, spaying her before she goes into heat is the best way to go. Make sure your vet is familiar with Yorkies and their special needs for surgical anesthesia. If you wait until she goes into heat then they will either charge you more money because it is more dangerous to spay her then, or they will make you wait until she goes out of heat and you will have to buy special panties with pads for her or clean up her mess as long as she is in heat. I know from experience that having a dog in heat that you do not intend to breed, will attract all kinds of dogs that you don't want anywhere near your baby girl!!!! It can cause all kinds of problems for you and the neighbors!!! Oh and of course your baby girl!!! I'd make an appointment pronto to get her spayed before she goes into heat! |

Thank you all so much for responding!! I think i will take her to the vet soon and discuss the details about getting her spayed. But i hope she is not pregnant or anything after what happened with the male yorkie. They looked like they were just playing, and besides they are both still puppies. Once again thanks so much for your help! x |
You should be setting up a spay and also at her age she should no longer be allowed to play with unaltered males- too Many chance for an oops. |
