HELP! Surgery bound, but ?????? :( HELP!!!!!!! My 13 yr old Yorkie ( at least thats what we think he is) has had a small growth on his neck almost all his life, its been the size of an olive seed, until about 6-8 months ago, & when it started to get larger, the vet took a look at it & noticed there was blisters of puss, & squeezed it, ever since then, the growth got bigger but it hasnt really bothered him, til a couple days ago. Then yesterday I noticed he was scratching & scratching & there was blood on my bed, til I noticed that his neck was covered in blood, so of course I rush him to my vet & as you can see by clicking at the pics, that is what it looks like, the reddish thing protruding there was white, which seems to be like a chunk of puss that is just there, & as he scratches around it it bleeds. Now here's the thing, hes one of those Yorkies that super fragile, not b/c of weight, but just is, the one that doesnt jump up on things, is laid back & doesnt have a care in the world kinda of Yorkie, he is MY baby, my 1st Yorkie & I have always had this gut feeling about not letting him go into surgery once he hit 9-10 yrs old, I just have this bad feeling, & now the time has come that I guess I HAVE to put him through this surgery but I cant make the decision of doing it... Id like your opinions, what would u do in my shoes? I just feel like if something does happen to him in the surgery & I knew it, id kill myself, I would NEVER forgive myself. Take a look at the pics & please give me your opinion... Thanks! Here is the link to the pic so you can see it bigger: LINK to Pics |
Oh my poor baby. If it was my baby I would def. have the surgery done to remove the lump. |
I would speak at length with the vet. He really should not have to be anesthetized very long to have that thing removed. Just be sure to have labs drawn prior to make sure there is not a problem where anesthesia could be an issue. Usually with the older pups, they give them IV fluids. I would definitely get it removed if it were my pup. My George who is approximately 12 (could be older..he was a rescue) just had a dental a few months ago and had some growths removed at the same time. As he has gotten older, he has started to develop them and I have her remove them during his dentals so that there is not an extra procedure. The risk of a pup dying from anesthesia is very, very low. We always have to balance risks...what if you leave that growth? It could become much worse. As I said, best to have a discussion with your vet. Please keep us posted. He is a cutie. :) |
Agree with LadyJane. If mine, I would have it removed. Abcess or something....My daughters 13 year old toy Poodle just had 2 removed recently. |
I understand your being nervous about the anesthesia. Would it be possible to have it removed with your pup being sedated and using a local anesthetic? I would discuss everything with the vet. Good luck to you and your pup!! |
I don't like anesthesia, but big health problems scare me more. I would have the lump removed. Sending positive thoughts for your boy. |
Hey everyone! Thanks for all your help... i guess imma go ahead with the surgery tomorrow. Im terrified, but I guess its what is best... I will def have a talk with my vet tomorrow about everything... I know we did a cbc about a month ago & things were fine, but I will ask about the other blood work. I will try to keep in contact tomorrow... thanks! |
I will say prayers for him...and for you. I know how worried you will be. Will look forward to hearing about him tomorrow. What is his name ?? |
Poor little guy. I will check back tomorrow to see how things went during his surgery. |
I will keep him in my prayers for a safe surgery. Nikki had all his teeth removed 2 years ago and he is estimated (rescue) to be 17-18 years old. He did really well. |
Just seeing this but agree with others, I would have the lump removed after proper pre-op procedures have been done. I will say a prayer for your little guy's safe surgery and complete recovery. look forward to an update. |
Looking for an update. Hope all went well today! :) |
