Addy breathing very fast?! Our Addy is 5 years old and always been in good health. The last couple days Shes Been breathing in quick short breaths. I am a paramedic so I tried listening to her lungs and they are clear... No pneumonia, bronchitis etc. Shes got a strong, normal pulse and she's acting normal and happy... Begging for treats etc. She's also having a dry cough and seems to get winded fast. Any ideas? Were gonna take her to vet Monday.... But I'm worried if I need to take her to the emergency 24-hour vet? Thanks in advance |
If you are a paramedic and are concerned, I say follow your instincts and take her to the EC. This could be cardiac related...maybe not; but at least if you take her in you will know for sure. As you know some things don't show up on auscultation. |

Oh, and please keep us posted!!! Welcome to YT. :) |
I agree. Welcome to YT we are so happy to have you join us. |
Well that's the thing. She seems just fine. Just breathing fast. She's in the kitchen right now trying to figure out what she can steal.... Literally no change in her demeanor. |
What are her resps? Normal for a dog is 10-20...of course faster if they're playing. Did she recently receive a kennel cough/bordetella vaccine? (http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ulse-gums.html) |

Perhaps this link might help? OMG...ahahhaah Same link as Wylie's Mom DUH |
I have made enough trips to the ER vet with Rosie. It is worth it for the peace of mind. I would go. It is better to be on the safe side. |
I would definitely take her to the vet, even if for just your peace of mind. I do have a thought, however. Is it really warm where she is? Dogs don't sweat, they pant. If she's excited or hot she may just be panting. Still, panting excessively can be a sign of serious problems. Whatever, do get her checked out and let us know what happens. |
Okay. Were at emergency vet. They say some inflammation and are gonna go with steroids and antibiotics. They say she's fine otherwise but I hate how she's breathing. But she is her normal peppy self and bouncing off the walls. |
Happy to hear that you took her in. I am sure Addy's breathing will be starting to improve as soon as the steroids peak in her system. Thanks for the update! :) |
Sending best wishes to Addy for the meds to take care of the inflammation quickly. Glad to read the good update. :) |
So glad you took her in! Hope Addy continues to improve! |
