C2 Fractureee
 

We have 2 Yorkies, Ava and Prince. They are both 1.5 years young. I researched and read so much before we got them. We are so in love with them.
Ava fell off the couch and fractured her C2 vertebrae. She is a very sick little dog. She is 3.6 pounds. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? The ER vets were awesome and have been a great support. Our regular vet is super busy and we are going to see them 2morrow AM. Her pain meds don't seem to be enough. Each day she seems worse to me. I understand how serious this injury is and was just wondering when I might see some improvement which would give me hope.
I know she shouldn't have been on the couch. We had people over and I was in the back of the house getting ready to go to my daughter's graduation.:mad: I am so sad. Ava is the nicest dog I have ever had. She is acting so stoic and it breaks my heart for her.

The pain med probably isn't enough, but another possibility for her being so quiet is that some pain meds have sedation as a side effect. Is she crying, whining, panting, etc.?

Have you thought about going to a specialty hospital to get specialists on the case? It sounds pretty serious and that may be the best option for your pup.

If you have a vet. training facility in a university, you might do better with them than a regular vet. I have found that their diagnostic skills, treatment, and care are superior and generally the cost is the same and perhaps less in the long run because you do not spend so much spinning your wheels with vets treating out of their expertise. So sorry to see her hurt. They jump on everything and it is so tough to prevent them from injury especially when you are our of routine. Take care and do not blame yourself. Take care, Mary in FL

I urge you with everything in my Soul to get this baby to a specialist, it may in fact be a fracture, but neuro damage can be happening.

You may risk paralysis if not seen STAT/NOW!

Please keep us updated on her.

I hope your baby is doing better and your vet was able to help her or refer you to a specialist.

This is a serious fracture as I'm sure you know. Is she on crate rest with a neck brace? I do concur with the others if there is anyway possible to take her to a specialist it would be well worth the $$$. Just so you know a little ditty of a refrain from my anatomy class is C1 2 3 keeps the diaphram alive.

Also let your regular vet know about her progress. Consider hand feeding her as well to avoid strong neck flexion.
