Help, my yorkie paralyzes from time to time Hi: I am worried about my 4 months old yorkie who suddenly is unable to move. He was a very normal pup until he started to remain standing still, without movement, he can only move his head when we call him, with a look of I want but I can't, and after we pet him for a while, he just goes to sleep for 2 to 3 hours every time this happens. One day he had 3 of this episodes, and I am worried! Anyone who can help out with info, I'll appreciate it! |
Welcome to YT. :) Your pup could be in very serious trouble. He needs to see a vet tonight and possibly a neurologist in the near future. It could be one of several things. Your pup needs a medical assessment immediately. The symptoms you describe tend to fall under the category of neurological issues and should not wait. |
I agree, this is an emergency! Please get him to a vet immediately! Good luck! |
I'm just agreeing w the advice already given by two smart yorkie ppl - I would not wait to take the little one to the vet. Please let us know how you make out. |

Wondering how Dante is doing? Hoping all is well.:) |
We went to the veterinary today and he checked him and made some blood tests. He ended up having a very low count of white blood cells, which is a sign of a virus in his body. He mentioned that he could be passing parvovirus or he could have distemper, because that virus affects neurologically. He told us to keep Dante under the antibiotics that we were gaving him until Friday and keep watching him. My mom and I today, noticed that he got an paralization episode quickly after gaving him another pill that vet gave us called REGLAN. After thinking about it, we conclude that he is possibly having episodes after everytime we gave him that pill. So we call the vet and he told us to stop giving him that pill. So we will watch him for the next days and see how he does without REGLAN. I'll let you all know. Thank you sooooo much for all the prayers and support. Blessings to all of you and your precious yorkies!!!! |
Who prescribed Reglan for him and for what condition? |
The vet. He prescribed him that because initially we went there because he made a little bit of diarrhea and vomit once. He was not eating or playing and looked really sad. So the vet prescribed him REGLAN (pill) and other antibiotic (liquid), in case he had a virus. Because here in Puerto Rico we are having lots of cases. (We thought REGLAN was for nauseas, but I am not sure of that anymore). Anyway, he is eating well, playing, and doing everything he normally did. Except for those sudden episodes of paralization, which now we think are after having REGLAN. We are not going to give him that pill anymore. |

Side Effects of Reglan for Dogs | eHow.com This is a link to side effects of Reglan in dogs. It does cross blood brain barrier and can affect neurological system. Hope this info and holding the med helps the poor little guy. Thanks for letting us know how he is doing. :) |
Thank you so much for that information. In the part of neurotoxicity describes exactly what is happening to Dante. Lets hope that tomorrow he does not have any paralization episode, so we can conclude that it was REGLAN that was causing him this. |
Today Dante has not have any paralization episode. So I think it was definetely the drug REGLAN what was causing him those episodes. Thank God, we figure that out. Lets see how he does tomorrow!!! Thank you all for being attentive to Dante's health!!! |
