I've had my fair share of illnesses and while I have not witnessed any of my dogs trying to attact the ill one, I think it is a good idea to crate or pen the dog that is ill. I was told by some pet owners to never leave my epileptic dog with his siblings - I'd rather come home and find a dead Teddy than to affect his mental status by isolating him from his family. I believe they need each other. |

Thanks for all the brainstorming. Pixie's blood work was done about 4 weeks ago but I will have it rerun if it keeps up. She is the alpha dog of my group and the others have never bothered her. It is very rare that someone isn't home with them so I don't think any of the others are bothering her. She is eating fine, but I did switch their food gradually, but it was after her symptoms started and it was to a food they have had before. Pixie is not prone to a sensitive stomach usually. Her back and spine looked normal on the Xrays and on manual exam. She is using the ramps and stairs like normal but her tail is not up like it usually is. I just gave them a puppy nylabone chew to see if she would be distracted by it and she was. At first she left it alone but when Roxie came over to steal hers she picked it up an started to spin around to play with Roxie. I did give her metacam a couple of hours ago. I just can't figure out why she feels more comfortable on the other side of the gate. I may just take it down for a few days and see what happens. Unless you see her behavior you would think I was nuts. Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers. |
I hope little Pixie will be ok. |

Patti, I so hope you get some answers for Pixie soon; it's so hard to know something is wrong, but not have answers. Ellie May is very familiar now w/ disc problems, so she def has good advice. Hugs to Pixie! |
You know your pup better than anyone. So no one is going to think your nuts. It may not be anything serious but you know it is not the norm. Just keep on top of it you will get to the issues. You are all in my thoughts. |
Pixie's regular vet called tonight. She said she reviewed all the information and cd with the xray results and still thinks it could be the UTI. She knows Pixie is very sensitive and may be reacting due to pain. She wants me to give her the metacam 1 a day and the tramadol every 8 hours for a couple of days and then bring in another urine sample. She said she may need a different antibiotic. She is acting a tiny bit better tonight. I made her stay back here with us and she didn't cry or bark to go up front for about an hour and a half. Unfortunately we are expecting thunder storms soon and I am worried this will set her back some. I will pursue the back issue further if she doesn't improve in the next couple of days and if her urinalysis comes back clean. Thanks again for all the support. |
I pray it is a UTI and nothing more serious, and I hope it can get cleared up soon so that she can get back to her usual self. |
Just thought of two more things... Any possibility she may have a flea? Dogs that have flea bite allergies can act really strange and it only takes one flea to set them off. The other thing would be anal glands, as they can cause odd behavior too, especially hiding and general weirdness. Did your vet say to give her anything for the gas? I use Mylecon drops for infants when necessary... don't know if that would be appropriate for her though... I did mention about the earthquake, not knowing exactly where you live, but I still think it's a possibility. My bones will pick up on a storm 3 or 4 days out, hours and miles away. Sensitive dogs can pick up tremors and changes in the atmospheric pressure long before we humans can. Lol, mine are especially fond of the smoke alarm battery change required beep. Keeping your little sweetie in my prayers.... |

My smoke alarm battery beeped today, and I felt a little panic. It was just a spontaneous reaction. It definitely would have scared my girls. I continue to pray for you and Pixie. I really hope things improve for both of you. |
thank you for your prayers for my zowi and we are continuing prayers for pixie that she improves for you very soon! |
You are still in my thoughts... sending prayers!! |
