Please help! Devastated ;'(((( Hello All, My baby Bella, currently 2years old has been recently diagnosed with severe kidney failure. I am devastated. I've had her since she was 8weeks old and just can't see myself without her. Doctors have showed no hope in her improvement considering the fact her CREATNINE is at 11.2 and her BUN at 140. She's been hospitalized and on IVY fluids for 48 hours now going onto 72, showing no improvement. I've been told that the best thing to do is put her to sleep so that she doesn't suffer. I am so depressed about this and the last thing I want to do is put her to sleep, I REFUSE to. Does anyone know of any medications or treatments I can use to bring her home and completely AVOID putting her to sleep. Please HELP! I really am devastated!!!! |
This is so sad, I wish I knew something to tell you, please know you are in my prayers that your baby will recover from this. |
I am so sorry for you and Bella. Is there any indication what caused this? Here is a recent thread on renal failure: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...l-failure.html I'm sorry I have no advice to offer. Sending prayers for Bella. |
I have no experience with renal failure, but I want to send prayers for Bella. |
I am so sorry. Sending prayers and hugs to you and Bella. |
I'm so sorry. Were there no symptoms leading up to this? Surely there must have been some kind of signal something was not right? BIL's bull terrier also passed from kidney failure. Bull terriers are known for being strong and hiding pain, but also known for having kidney issues. By the time BIL knew something was wrong it was already too late, and had to put him to sleep. There is no medication that will cure it, the organs are failing. Again I am so sorry you are going through this. |
I am so sorry for you and Bella. I just wanted you to know that I will be praying for her. We had to make a decision like what you're facing, last year with Prince. We love and loved him too much to have him suffer any longer. It was extremely hard on both my husband and me. |
I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I lost my Dixie at 7 months of age to congenital kidney failure. Did they say Bella's was congenital? Dixie's kidney's were vey under developed. My vet said there was no hope but I took her to a nephrologist and he said he had many yorkies with kidney failure that were being successfully managed. We tried medicines but within a week she was so sick we had to make the hardest decision. The only thing you could try is seeing a specialist so at least you know everything has been done. I will keep you both in my prayers. |
I am so very sorry to hear that you are going thru this. My Sammy has CRF but he is older - almost 13. Maybe the IV fluids will start to help soon. Saying prayers for you and your sweet pup. Sending hugs. |
i am very sad to hear of this happening to your baby. i have no advise for you but wanted to send along prayers and hugs to you for your baby and strength to you as you decide what to do. i hope something can help her. God be with you both. |
Just seeing this. You must be devastated. I'm so sorry. Unfortunately, I'm no help. If it were me, I'd get a second opinion from a specialist before I did anything drastic. Sending you our best. |
I'm so sorry. I had to go through this with my cat about a year ago. She was only 8 yrs. old and very small. It was heartbreaking, but we could tell she was in pain and putting her down seemed to be the kind thing to do. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |
Keeping you & Bella in my thoughts. |
I am so very sorry. We went through a similiar situation at one time. Sending cyber hugs to you. |
I'm very sorry to hear how sick your sweet Bella is. Perhaps a second opinion? Hugs to you and my prayers that Bella will somehow heal. |
Is she at a specialty hospital now? Her beat chance would be to let a nephrologist atteTpt to manage this. You might want to call the vet school in your state and see what they think. Kidney transplantation can be done in dogs, but this case sounds much too severe, it's an uncommon procedure, and it would cost probably $10-$20K. I am so very sorry. :( There does come a time when the pain and suffering that a pup is going through is just too much with a very, very small chance of improving. And we are able (by veterinary medicine) to end that suffering. I know you want to do everything in your power to save her and you are a fantastic owner for it. Just remember to always be fair to her when making any decision to prolong her pain. |
Welcome to YT... So sorry you and your pup are going through this. Wishing you the best... Here's a link to the Yahoo group K9Kidneys, they may have some info that could help you.... K9KIDNEYS : for owners of dogs with Kidney Disease |
I am sooooo sorry to be reading this!! I don't really have any advice, but I went through the same type of thing, this time last year, with my Schipperke. :( Prayers and Hugs to you!!!! |
So very sorry to hear what you are going thru. I am sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Hoping for a good outcome! |
If you are very against euthanasia at this point, I would recommend seeing a specialist to get a second opinion and see if there is anything to be done. I am very sorry :( |
I hope you are able to get a second opinion and better news. I will say prayers for you and your little one. ((hugs)) :( |
I'm so sorry that you and your baby are going through this:( I agree with everyone that said to get a second opinion and to see a specialist. At least that way you'll know that you did everything possible to help her. If you do have to let her go, know in your heart that you are doing what's best for her, even though it hurts so much:unlove: Sending good thoughts your way:love: |
Thank you all for al your prayers and concerns, I really appreciate them. After 72hours at the Emergency Clinic my baby Bella has not improved, her CREATNINE remains very high and doctors believe that if it hasn't came down with all the IVY fluids she's had in the past 3 days, it's very likely they will not go down because her kidneys are too damaged:cry: I have brought her home with SQ Fluids and medications, but she looks very lethargic:unlove:. According to the specialist she was seen by she will not last more than two or three days. A kidney transplant would cost me around $15,000 but are not practiced enough here in Northern California because they are never successful, according to the specialist she was seen by. I was also told about dialysis, but they did not recommend it for her since she is very small and weights only 4 pounds, they said it would be to painful for her and would suffer a lot. I am so heartbroken and depressed, I feel like I have done everything I can to keep her alive and nothing I do seems right. I hate seeing her so sick and down, I hate the idea of putting her to sleep, but the last thing I want is for her to suffer. The only thing I can possibly await now is for a miracle:cry::unlove: |
your & your baby will be in my thoughts and prayers! |
So sorry to hear that report. My heart goes out to you and Bella. I will keep Bella and her mommy in my prayers. |
So very sorry your sweet baby is going through this....:( keeping you both in prayer... |
I'm so sorry to hear that Bella is so ill. I have no words of wisdom. I will be thinking of you and Bella and saying a prayer for you both. I would only counsel to not allow her to suffer if you can bear it. Peace be with you. |
Keeping you in my prayers. We had this same thing happen with one of our cats years ago. My husband was so attached to him and they were such buddies. He was 12 years old and we had boarded him to go on vacation. The vet called to tell us he was in kidney failure, we had no previous signs. We came home early to be with him. We brought him home with IV fluids and fed him with a baby spoon for a week. He also became very lethargic so we had to make the very heart wrenching decision to have him put to sleep. We brought him home to stay. God Bless you and comfort you in this difficult time. |
Holding thoughts of you in my heart and prayers. Lost my previous baby to renal failure and feel your pain in the decisions that have to be made. No one can tell you what to do -- just do what you think is best for your baby. |
