Injured Leg My little Yorkie is very healthy, we got back from the store and she went to lay down. When my boyfriend got home she ran to the door to greet him and she was limping. This was 2 days ago. I thought maybe she jumped wrong, and would walk it off and sometimes it seems like she is ok and walks on it ok. Then at the drop of the dime is completely won't step on it. She doesn't cry out when I touch or move it. Is there anything I can do for her over the holiday weekend? Should I wrap it up? Or should I try and get her into an animal er? |
Better to be safe than sorry. I would take her to the emergency vet. If she is walking on it, it may only be a strain; but I would rather know if it were me. Plus, they could give her medication if needed. |
It's really hard telling. I've seen puppies with broken femurs not showing obvious signs of pain except lifting unless a vet touches just the right spot. As long as she eating and drinking, she should be fine through the night. if the regular vet isn't open in the morning though, I'd consider the ER. Since she is lifting it sometimes, she is likely in pain. Can't have her wait til Tuesday... Have you ever seen a dog carry their leg with luxating patella? Does it look like that? Did you check her paw pad to make sure something isn't poking or pulling? If you decide to wait until morning, she needs to stay still for the night. Crate and leash to potty. |
Thanks! I will keep you posted! We are laying down together now. |
Most vets are open at least half a day on Saturdays. I would take her in just to make sure everything is okay. When Tina was about 3mo. old she fell off the bed from playing with one of the other dogs and they bounced her off. She cried for a few min. and then she would just whine if you picked her up the wrong way. We thought at first it might be just a sprang. I took her in and sure enough it was broke in 2 places. It was a back leg and she was out of commission for alittle over 2mo. So, just to not take any chances I would make sure and I hope its not broke, maybe just that she turned it wrong. Keep us informed. |
did you check for a broken toenail? |
