Need advice please!!!!
 

Yesterday I got a call from my mother saying Keoki was sick- we have been staying with her because my dad recently passed away- She said she was taking him to the vet- The vet checked him and said he was fine and sent him home. I drove back from NYC and saw how sick my baby was and immediately rushed him to the emergency vet. It turns out my mom had put Preen a weed killer all over the backyard where the dogs are out- she has been out of it since my dads passing but none of the vets or poison control think that could have done this although i am a bit skeptical. At the emergency vet they drew blood, took x-rays and called animal poison control. The vet thought it could be a stomach problem and sent him home with amoxicillan and they gave him an iv and pain meds- this entire time he had a fever and :( shivers and shakes ( from the time I got home). I have never seen my baby sick. We got home from the ER vet at 2 am and at 7am i woke up and he seemed worse- did not urinate, have a bowel movement, want to eat, get out of bed or even lift his head and still shaking. I decided to take him to his vet which is 2 and a half hours way from my mom. They checked his blood and did a sonogram- it looks like he tested a faint positive for lymes and the sonogram showed his spleen was enlarged ( they said it could be from toxicity) and his liver and pancreas did not look great but said we will know at 9 am as soon as his blood panel comes back. Since we got home today my boy has been sleeping, still shivering from time to time, barely eating and has only pee peed when i make him wake up. They gave me the option to bring him back to the emergency vet for fluids this eve but i feel like he is better with me and my watchful eye- they said it wasn't necessary and unless we know what it is to treat just keep an eye on him. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? I feel like I'm doing all that I can do but any insight might help and all the prayers for my baby Keoki- He's the light of my life. Thanks guys

I am so sorry Keoki is sick. I don't even have a guess what might be wrong, but wanted to send prayers for a speedy recovery. I hope the vet figures it out soon.

My friends dog got very sick all of a sudden and she thought she got into a de-wormer for a horse and they also gave a lactulose enema to rid of any toxins if that was the reason....

Has he ever been vaccinated against Lymes disease? This could cause a false positive on the test.

If he hasn't eaten all day... fluids would be good supportive care... how were his bloodtests this morning? How is he doing now?

I hope Keoki is feeling better. You may want to get fluids in him if she is still not feeling better. Pixie got really sick from fertilizer put on the lawn when we weren't aware of it. Pixie made a full recovery.

Hi everyone- Thank you so much. Unfortunately I had to rush my baby back to the emergency vet this morning because he did not want to get up, walk, eat or drink and he also had a fever. It was so hard for me to leave my little boy there but I had to. He has had a fever all day and his spleen is still swollen and they cannot figure out the cause. His blood tests came back negative, the vet today tested him for pancreatitis which was negative and they also took fluid from his joints, sent it out and that came back negative. He has never had the Lyme vaccination as I am not big on vaccinations and learn more toward the homeopathic side of things. I kind of lost it this morning when I realized my baby wasn't getting better. The receptionist said between my vet and the specialized emergency vet where he is he is with veterinary Gods but I just want to know why he has a high fever and enlarged spleen. I was on the phone with Animal Poison Control and they said the Preen would only cause GI upset. Please keep praying we need your prayers my yorkie family- I just want my baby better.

Praying he gets better soon.It sounds like he is in great hands. Pixie was the only one of my 3 that got sick from the fertilizer even though they were all on it. Cali and Maya were bigger though. Her symptoms were neurological.

I just wanted to update all of you and thank you for all your prayers and thoughts. I was able to pick up my baby this evening!!!! It turns out the great vet he was with since yesterday, after running a bunch of tests gave him a stronger dose of antibiotic. Thankfully this morning he woke up and his fever had broken and his spleen went down in size!!! And he also ate. It looks like it was Lymes Disease and that it affects dogs differently and it almost killed my boy :( I am so grateful for all of his wonderful vet and everyone that prayed for him- thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!! I was amazed that the stinker was even begging when we got home!!! I never thought i would be so happy to see that!!!!! Thanks again!:D
