Please HELP! Eye injury or cataract? 1 Attachment(s) Ok well I want to take my Bridgette to the vet for her eye. And I WILL but it seems like she literally has something new every month that she needs to see the vet for. She is 6 years old and her vet trips are really putting us in debt. And my husband is having a hissy. Its like he thinks I enjoy these vet trips. I think this may be a cataract but I just noticed it 2 days ago. Do they develop that fast? Is it only a surgery option or are there other options to help fix or cure this? What do you think? |
I can't tell from the pic, but I see a dent and something sticking out of her eye? Main problem if it bothers her, she may scratch it and make it worse. Put an e-collar on her now if you have one. She needs to go to an ER right away! |
I see some cloudiness, but there's also a spot right at the top of her eye that looks like an injury. Is that what you're talking about? If so, you really need to get her in ASAP before infection sets in. Eye injuries are very painful so please don't wait! |
That is an injury... cataracts are round and start usually in the middle of the eye and progress to the outter edges of the cornea. The white cloudy area you see is clouding as a result of the injury and should clear up as the injury heals... |
If you take her now for treatment, it will be cheaper than the surgery to remove the eye later.... (a lot cheaper) I looked again at the pic blown up to 400% with my magnifying glasses on. Looks like a hole with eye matter and blood vessels protruding and a dent to the right |

I agree with the others, looks like an injury/ulcer, especially because of the placement. The cloudiness is scarring. Please take your girl to a doctor ASAP. Eye problems are excruciating painful and your girl could lose her eye. Also, it is cheaper to go now as KJC pointed out. I just returned from our vet for a follow up on Max's eye. He has a corneal ulcer that was caused by an eyelash growing the wrong way on his lid. |
Yes- that looks like an injury, a very painful injury. She needs to see a vet as soon as possible. These little guys do seem to get into a lot of trouble- I rarely ever go more then 2 months without seeing the vet- but we chose to bring these dogs into our homes and therefore we have a responsibility to care for them. |
You may want to have her see an eye specialist, but definetely get to the Vet. |
I agree with Steve, unless your vet has advanced eye training, I would ask for a referral to a specialist. They will probably send you to one right away. The depression like thing in the middle of the cloudy circle looks like an ulcer, and the colored thing to the upper left of the cloudy circle looks like a potential blood vessel that has grown toward the ulcer. Sending prayers for your little one and hope you can get her in to see someone immediately. |
I am so sorry it looks like an injury to me as well. Poor baby it must hurt.I would go to a vet asap. Perhaps you might want to look into pet insurance. I went with Petplan as Buster also seemed to have issues and it seemed like the wise thing to do in the long run. |
I'm on the bandwagon here I'm afraid - that looks like a pretty intense injury like something poked her in the eye. You absolutely 110% need a vet asap. |
If this were my pup I would be out the door and on my way to the EC! Eye injuries are serious not to mention painful for the pups. This does look like an injury or an ulcer to me. Even waiting overnight could make a huge difference in terms of saving eyesight! If it is not a problem, then all you will be paying for is an exam...better to be safe than sorry! Most vets are trained to treat eye ulcers.....and definitely ECs can handle them. I do suggest a follow up with an opthamologist after..but I would not wait for an appointment! |
Checking for an update... hope you went to the vet for treatment and they could save the eye (as this was 2 days old already) and that your baby is feeling better.... |
