Ellie's vet rarely uses Tresaderm. Doesn't like it for whatever reason. Ineffect I think...

I will Definitely be putting it on his list of things he had a Reaction to.....

Does anyone know any information on Mometamax? and if there are any side affects?

Yes, there are side effects. It's a good drug. I have gotten better results with Otomax and Zymox for yeast.

Ha! Good, I thought I was doing something wrong! There are different doses for different problems, sometimes it would clear up after the first go round, but stuff always came back. After 3-4 tries I just don't use it anymore.

That cleared the yeast problem for about a week, then it came back too. She had yeast and ear mites. I swear by my coconut oil. Did the job in record time... saw vast improvement in 3 days!

I don't want anybody to do this without asking their vet, but with most or all ear drugs for infection, Ellie's vet doesn't say to count drops like teh directions say. She says too little drug is getting where it needs to be that way. We put it in the ear and squeeze.

The Momentax bottle comes with an inch long applicator tip so you can easily get it in there, but it's impossible to count the drops that way. I usually apply the meds, and massage the ear canal, if it's gooshy, I am happy bc I know it's in there. :D

I've used Tresaderm with great success on one of my girl's whose infection didn't respond to Otomax, and several others that we tried....However, she had a bacterial infection and not a yeast infection.....

She will use it occasionally if the infection doesn't clear with something else. Infections don't usually clear well for her with it though. I've never used it because the others seem to work for Ellie, but hers are chronically recurring. We've went I think like 2 or 3 months now without a major issue and that is really good for her. Stupid allergies...

Do you use the coconut oil orally or applied to the ear? Nicky had Pancrititis and someone suggested I don't give him coconut therapy oil orally, so I stopped. I have a few jars in the fridge and I'm wondering what else I can do with them.
BTW I use Tresaderm every time my babies start scratching their ears like crazy. the vet said it was okay to administer 3 drops in each ear until they stop scratching. It works for us and I have a couple of bottles in the fridge for emergencies. Do you think this bottles could be kept at room temperature? I feel bad putting those cold drops in their ear :rolleyes:

I give it to mine orally, I put it in their ears, I brush their teeth with it, I use it on minor wounds and skin irritations, and I've used it as a coat oil treatment. I also use it on me. I'm not familiar with the Coconut 'Therapy' oil... is it plain coconut oil? Coconut oil is metabolized by the body differently than other oils. If your dog was taking it with no problems, IMHO I would continue, but do check with your vet. Or do you think the CO brought on the Pancreatitis? My male had two episodes of Pancreatitis years ago, before I started the coconut oil, and he's had no problems since.

I know alot of people that use Tresaderm and it works just fine... I just can't seem to get it to work for me and mine. Tresaderm does have to be kept refrigerated though. Regular coconut oil does not have to be refrigerated, check the label on yours.

I've never heard of putting coconut oil in their ears. What does that do? Do you use it like a cleanser, or in addition to an ear cleanser?

Wow! All that you can do with it? Nice :thumbup: The one I use is called CocoTherapy Pet Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. Plain and 100% pure and natural. I told the vet about it and he said it was okay to give to Nicky.
I don't really know what brought Nicky's Pancreatitis, though I suspect that it was a number of things, all at the same time.

Among them, I noticed that every time I gave him an omega-3 fish oil I bought at the vet's, he would have a bad reaction. The CocoTheraphy was fine, but with the scare, I stopped everything. I had started giving him CocoTherapy for his constant vomiting (at the time) and instead of the drugs the vet wanted me to keep him on for acid-reflux. The vomiting stopped and I was in love with the CocoTherapy :thumbup:

Then the Pancreatitis happen and I'm back to square one with him. I'm seeing a nutricionist-vet soon and I'm going to ask if I can put him back on the coconut oil, if not then it's good to know that there are many other uses ;) I keep that in the fridge, but I was told that it's okay to leave it at room temperature.

I'll keep the Tresaderm in the fridge too :( and keep getting those looks I get when I have to give them a few drops in the ear sometimes :p

I have heard some people set the Tresaderm in warm water for about 5-mins. Before administering....

The Fish oil (LCFA) is different than the Coconut oil (MCFA) and the body metabolizes them differently. Sometimes with mine I start them on new things with just half or quarter the dose, and build them up gradually to a full dose, or just leave it at half if that's all they can tolerate.

It's antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, bugs don't like it and it's good for the skin.
I put enough in an ear so when I massage the ear canal I can hear it gooshing around. Then, let them shake out any excess and wipe the ear flap off. Then about every 2 or 3 days I apply 3-5 drops per ear for 1 week. Problems are usually cleared up by then. If not, I continue for another week and then go to once a week.
