Help please! Sushi vomiting blood and has bloody jelly like stool
 

I'm hoping someone could advise me as to what to do.
My yorkie, Sushi had a bloody stool this morning. Half of it looked like normal poo but the rest are bloody and jelly like. Some bits even looked like bright rasperry jam. This afternoon, he vomited bright red bile that seemed like blood.
I know I should rush him to the vet, but its a non working holiday in my country today, and no vet is available in my area. I hope someone can tell me what to do, at least a home treatment or something because we'd have to wait til tomorrow or on Monday to go to the vet. I'm very worried and I'm starting to panic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

1st without more info I couldnt do anything but quess. If hes a puppy it could be provo, or he may have a twisted bowel or a reputuer inside, Theres usaly always an ER vet open even on Hoildays and this would be the best and fastest way to safe your pets life, Good luck..

This situation has happened before, but he was diagnosed for poison when it first happened. The second time it happened but no bloody bile, I was told by his vet that he had hairball blockage so they performed enema and had him on IV. He also wears an e-collar now because he licks excessively. The third time with no bloody bile, the vet said he was constipated so I was told to give him mineral oil for 3 days and to put more fiber in his food as well as to give milk in the morning. The food I'm giving him was prescribed by the vet before (boiled ground beef with little to no fat, one whole egg, bread crumbs and leafy vegetables). I have not given sushi anything other than that, except the other day, he was given a goat milk bone treat. I'm in a panic right now because he vomited bloody bile and poo. I have called every vet and animal hospital near my area but sad to say they are closed until Monday.
Will giving Yakult (probiotics) help?

Hi, thank you for the vet suggestions. However, I live in the Philippines. I don't think we have ER Veterinary hospital at least in my area. Thank you for taking time. I hope someone could suggest what I could do in the mean time to help my poor Sushi at home. He hasn't eaten anything today yet, but has drank water a few times. He's not as energetic as he usually is, but not that restless either. He hasn't vomited and pooed blood after this morning and afternoon's episode. I will be observing him until I can bring him to the Vet this Monday.

Those vets are both listed under manillia em vets, maybe they are not near you? Sorry to hear about your Sushi I don't know what to tell you to do until Moday.

You need to find an ER and go. Why would you risk his life?

This baby needs emergency treatment not a home remedy. I think the repeating incidents need to be linked up as a chronic problem that needs a good GI specialist.

I would also STOP giving any meat. When they are bleeding from digestive tract, most say to hold back on food, but I definately would not be feeding hamburger. Maybe some brown rice mixed with some chicken broth. I might go with some yogurt but NOT cow's milk. If the vet recommended milk before, was it goat's milk only? That would be the only milk I would ever use with our yorkies. A little pumpkin is usually good for any GI upset. Diet alone, can be the cause of both blood in the stools and vomiting pink bile. I would really be thinkin about his as both the hamburger and dairy products can cause mucous in the stools.

There are many other potential causes though. Read here: Causes of blood in a dog's stool Look for causes that could be true for all of the incidents of blood in the stool and vomiting the bloody looking bile. In young dogs, parasites and dietary intolerances are the top two reasons for blood in the stool. I think there is something ongoing rather than something different each time. But that is an uneducated guess! I am no vet. I think your dog should be thoroughly tested for parasites, get a fecal exam done, see the vet for a rectal exam, maybe even get a basic blood panel done too. But most important in there is see the vet.

The only reason I'm even attempting this is because I really believe that it is impossible to get to a vet today.

Because he is vomiting, do not feed anything.
When he stop you can try small amounts of water (or ice would probably be better).

Other than that, there is nothing anybody can advise because a diagnosis is needed first. A couple things come to mind. This is an emergency.

Has he stopped vomiting?
What was this goat bone thing? Never heard of it.

Is there a veterinarian school in the Philippines? Maybe you can contact them and they would see your dog. Hope all goes well.

I think he ate a little. Would that be a problem? How stupid of me. He's drinking normally though.

The vet told me before that I can just give any kind of milk and even told me I can give powdered milk too. So is the ground beef + rice + whole egg + bread crumbs + leafy vegetable not a good diet? This was what was recommended by the Vet before.

I'm starting to think that the previous instances are all related as well. But I don't know. I was thinking to trust the vet, since we've been going there since he was a puppy.

Sushi has stopped vomiting, he vomited once only but he pooped again. This time, its loose and dark reddish brown. It really smells too. It's really making me worry. I'll check back here again and update you guys once I've visited the Vet. I hope you can all pray for Sushi.

When a dog is vomiting, giving food just gives them something else to vomit up .

That is not a balanced diet long term for any dog.
Many dogs are lactose intolerant. Cows milk is not recommended.

Just reading this thread now, sooo glad you found a vet open. I'll pray for Sushi. Just a note : I can't possibly imagine why your regular vet would suggest milk? I know when a person has stomach ulcers sometimes milk helps to coat the stomach, but dogs systems aren't usually tolerant of it. Hope all goes well at the vet, please let us know:)

What you describe sounds exactly like the symptoms Lady had when she had HGE. "Raspberry jam stools" are classic HGE. Yorkies are prone to it. If Sushi does have HGE, he needs to be seen by a vet immediately. There is no home care. HGE can be fatal.
