Bentley had checkup and Sadie had xrays Bentley still has demodex so they upped his dose again for another month of hell. Sadie went to the vet today because I noticed one side of her hip felt like there was no muscle on it. They did an xray and thank GOD it's nothing wrong with her hips or her legs right now. The luxating patella is still in place for the most part but up a little high but still ok. The vet thinks that Sadie got a muscle atrophy from either a shot reaction (can't think of any shots given in her back hip) or possible a bee sting or spider bite. Poor girl. Vet says that the muscle may never grow back if it's scar tissue. I just feel awful for Sadie. I cried at the vets when they took her to xray because i just knew it was going to be something really bad. Thank God it's nothing really but muscle loss and we can all live with that. Prayers for the kids. Especially to get these darn mites to quite hanging around Bentley. Thanks, |
Sending get well thoughts and prayers for Bentley and Sadie. Feel better soon, sweet babies! |
Just a thought - not sure if its worth anything or not.....but have you tried the diatomacious earth. There are quite a lot of benefits to using this both externally as well as adding it to their food. Its something organic and holistic - so I thought I'd mention it. Either way, I hope Bentley gets better soon -as well as Sadie. |
I'm sorry about little Sadie. I wonder if a little physical therapy can help her to build that muscle back up, even if there is scar tissue. Maybe your vet could confer with a PT or ortho about it - It's worth asking anyway. |
i think I am going to schedule her with her VOM chiropractor that miracle worked her luxating patella. hoping she has more answers to helping out her muscles. |
Aw, I hope the kids start feeling better soon. It's sad to see Sadie like that, but at least you know it's not anything major. |
Is the muscled atrophy in the leg with the luxating patella? if so, thats very common because she doesn't put as much pressure on that leg then she does the "good" leg. My yorkie has bilateral LPs which has caused her to be more muscular in her front end so help support the weakness in her hind end. Most people wouldn't notice this unless it was pointed out. Physical therapy would help build up muscle mass, especially swimming because she won't have to put any pressure on her legs but still be able to use them all equally. |
Hi Rachel, so sorry your Yorkies are having health issues. Teresa |
So sorry your kids and you are going through this. I hope after this round of treatment poor Bentley will finally be all cured and Sadie's hips stay healthy and strong. |
I will certainly say prayers for your kids, and their mom. :) I am glad to hear everything was ok with Sadie and hope Bently gets his much deserved relief soon! |
I hope both of your little one's will be better soon. |
I hope the kids feel better soon. Hugs to you too. They might be oblivious to what is going on sometimes, but we're the ones stuck with all the worry! |
I hope they both feel better soon as well. I notice Toby is sometimes clumsy when he's jumping around and I'm thinking it's because he's not quite as strong on his back legs because of his LP. He's on glucosamine tablet and he runs like crazy which I would think helps strengthen his muscles. Now that the weather is finally getting nicer we can go on more walks. Keep us posted on your babies. |
Sending positive thoughts for your babies. Poor Bentley, I hope those nasty mites go away soon and for good. |
update on Sadie: my VOM (Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation) said that she can do cold laser therapy for muscle atrophy on Sadie and help regain the muscle that was lost. We will prob. start those next week. Sucks on the pocketbook, but anything for Miss Sadie. i'm also starting her on glucosamin/chondriton tabs |
