On Three Legs
 
Andy if he is going faster than a walk he always holds up the back left leg. He has been to his Vet for this and she called it sleepy leg as in he favors that leg for laying. BUT he does this all the time even if he hasn't been laying down. I was going to post this sooner but wanted to record it so you could see what I am talking about. Yes this is a video but I think it was appropriate for this thread

I don't know how to add video's to this, So I hope this works

my family dog growing up did this exact same thing. the vets never gave any suggestions or anything. she was never in pain over it and lived to be a happy 17 years old, hoping on three legs a lot of the time.

sorry i can't give any suggestions :confused: it confused us for her whole life!

Did the vet s=check him for Luxating Patella? It is so common in small dogs. I had one yorkie that had a torn ACL and even though it was repaired he always held that back leg up especially when running. Maybe you could get a second opinion from an orthopedic vet.

I am thinking about doing just that because now he does it everytime . Before it was sometimes. It does not hurt him at all. I'm glad I could video it now I can show the vet and you guys what I mean.

Knee and even hip problems have to be ruled out. My first guess would be luxating patella. It's not normal, and you are right, it indicates a problem.

Now that I have this video on my phone. I can show her what it's like. Gives her a much better visual. Although last time she did do all the right things in moving the leg as I seen it done with my sisters chocolate lab. I went to vets with them as Suzie is terrified and can be a handful her knee would totaly pop out sometimes go back in sometimes no eventualy it got better and has no problems sinse. Andy has no pain does not cry when you move the leg. It's very perplexing.

I would get him checked by an orthopedic specialist for Luxating Patella.

I agree..... mention luxating patella. I would also get a 2nd opinion if possible.

Thanks guys I am just glad other people could see what I mean. I will be taking this video with me and having him check further. It's not the best video but will give them an idea what's going on.

I would check out LP too. And hope I'm not offensive here and maybe I'm wrong but he looks a little overweight. I wonder if he's always had this? I wonder if he trimmed down a little if it would go away?

I vote a bad knee..LP...good luck
Weight can make it worse, just as with humans and bad knees...hard to get weight off some Yorkies..my Pinkie is one to gain weight so easily..

He weighs 7 pounds, Vet says thats in the middle range although she would hate to see him gain anymore. I don't take him for as long of a walk as he was used to having due to his leg. I worry. Also winter in Canada puts a damper on outdoor walks due to deep snow and salt.

I've done the best I can and no he is not over weight but does have lots of hair.

Andy goes in this week. Thanks for your help and not insulting me or Andy all that tends to do is upset someone trying to do the right things and the best they can. Money is no object when it comes to my boy I always have a credit card in the safe just for him and and ant emergency he may have, I like to get all the info I can when I go back in just so I am well informed on things and that's what matters.

When something is wrong with our babes we tend to be very sensitive and words can upset us easy. Thanks again !
