Socs is shaking and won't eat! 2 Attachment(s) My little boy, Socs, went to the vet on Monday 4/11/11. He's my first puppy and the vet asked me what shots I wanted him to have. I asked him what he would recommend. He said it was time for Socs' distemper, rabies, something that starts with an L and blood test for heart worm. I asked the vet if Socs should have them all at once and he said that would be fine. He said that because Socs only weighs 4.9lbs that he would probably be groggy for the rest of the night. Well it's been 2 days now and Socs is still shaking and looking lethargic. We took him on a walk last night and he seemed a little better but as soon as we got him home, he went back to his previous state. We also can't get him to eat anything unless we hand feed it to him, and even then he does so reluctantly. I'm getting really nervous. It's breaking my heart. I'm posting some pics because I want you to see how sad he looks :(. |
Poor Socs! The vaccine you are unsure of was probably Lepto... Have you called your vet? Its not normal for dogs to behave that way after vaccinations, especially after 2 days. I would say call your vet ASAP and if they are closed call ER Vet. Hope Socs is better soon! |
Agreed ~ This is a definite VET VISIT ASAP! |
I would take Socs back to the vet. I hope he's feeling better soon! |
YES, take him back to the vet. It has been more then 24 hours and he is still having problems. He's not eating because he feels crappy, and the shaking could be from a lot of reasons, maybe related to not eating. Then your going to need to worry about him beccoming dehydrated. I hope he will be ok and start feeling better soon. |
I agree, he needs to see a vet as soon as possible. He should not still be acting like this days later. In the future, you should not give that many vaccines at one time. Mine only get one vaccine per day and each one spaced at least 2 weeks, preferably a month apart. |
I would get him to the vet. I hope he feels better soon. |
Hope he has been back to the vet by now, this sounds like an adverse reaction. That was a lot of shots at once for a little guy. |
Oh, poor dear :( My Nicky does that posture (Socs first pic) when he's in pain. Nicky's 6 lbs and I won't let the vet give him a double vacc., he just doesn't do well afterwards. I space out the vaccs. to give Nicky time to recover before the next. Could that have been the problem with Socs? Maybe his little body can't take so many drugs at one time? I would take him to the vet asap. I hope Socs bounces back faster than quick :aimeeyork |
Yes, I agree, one vaccine at a time is best for these little ones. As someone else said, the "L" one is most likely Lepto and that vaccine in particular is notorious for causing problems (not in every dog of course, but it's quite common). Please get him to a vet and give us an update when you can:) Just a side note - any vet that "asks" the owner what vaccines they want is a :thumbdown in my book. It's good in one way that he checked with you before giving anything, but I'd find another vet for future use cause that sounds strange to me. Plus most good vets won't give that many vaccs. to a small dog in one day. Hope your baby's ok and we hear from you. |
Give him benadryl, he may be having a reaction to the lepto shot. Call the vet and ask for dosage for his size. My yorkie Teddie had the lepto shot when he was still with the breeder, and he had a slight reaction. No eating and dry heaves. Please contact the vet and take him in, and ensure they document this as a possible side effect so he doesn't get the shot again if that is indeed what his symptoms stem from. Good luck... |
Poor Socs. Just seeing this. I hope you went to the vet and that he is ok. Prayers for Socs. |
Shaking is a sign of pain... I agree with everyone else. He probably had a reaction to the vaccine. |
He is back to his old self now! The vet said 'well, looking in hindsight, I guess it wasn't a very good idea to give a 4.9lb dog 4 shots at once'. It just took him a couple of days to shake/sleep it off. It scared me and I will never go to that vet again! |
