Rosemary has been linked to seizures in rats in excessively high amounts so I wouldn't beat yourself up about it. The little bit of rosemary in his dental spray or chews is not going to cause cluster seizures like Max had.

I hope you get his BAT results today. Liver shunts are the main concern when Yorkies have seizures so you want to rule that out first.

I agree with the above. Also, what is Max's weight?

thank you for the reassurance. I just called the vet's office, according to the receptionist the results are in but the vet has to call me back with them. I'll keep you posted.

:thumbup: I am glad both LadyMom and Alldogboots addressed this issue with you because I was going to. Everything I have read about rosemary is that it is high amounts of rosemary oil that can cause seizures. There are other oils as well. Herbal Essential Oils | epilepsy.com

Teddy eats the CET dental chews and has been bathed in shampoo containing rosemary oil. I have rosemary plants in my garden. None have caused a seizure. He does not have a "trigger" at all in fact. I have not been advised by our neurologist to avoid rosemary for Teddy.

Anxiously waiting for results. I was only checking your dog's weight to check the pheno levels. My dog was grossly, mistakenly overdosed by the neurologist at LSU - total accident that she admitted too. Thank goodness my partner is the pharmacist that filled the prescription.

The neurologist assumed that it was a genetic/congential issue and there was a low possibility that doing an MRI and spinal tap would reveal something....But, it would be the ONLY way to rule out brain disorders that could cause seizures and which might be treated differently. Therefore, we performed all the tests and Teddy was diagnosed with Epilepsy. But, if we did not do those tests, we would not have known for sure what was causing Teddy's seizures and I would have never been content to medicate him without that information.

I agree. Being a nurse, I have the same belief that everything must be ruled out before assuming a diagnosis. Do you mind me asking how much all of the testing with the neurologist cost? I have pet insurance thank goodness

Sure, I don't mind at all. The consult with the neurologist was $250. For testing, I was given a high estimate of $2300 and a low of $2200. It came in at the high range.

Here was the cost breakdown in case you are wondering -

Inpatient Ward Hospitalization $57.50
CSF Tap 329.00
Fluid Analysis CSF $140.00
Anesthesia Isoflurane with Propofol 1 hr.$273.23

You're welcome! I did not have insurance (or a tax refund) but Teddy's breeder knew of Teddy's problems for the first two years of his life and did refund us to help with Teddy's care.
