My puppy has to have surgery for PDA Hello all I got my little Maggie my little yorkie about 4 weeks ago, when I took her for her vaccinations I was told she had a bad heart murmur. She has now had a scan on her heart and she has PDA. I have been told that without surgery she would be likely to die within a year. She is having surgery in 2 weeks time as she is only 13 weeks old she has to have full heart surgery and have her chest opened (if she was a larger dog I was told the can do the op through a vein). The cost is around £3,500 which I am hopefull may be partly covered on her insurance although as it is something she was born with may not. I am so worried for her having such a big op, plus she will be in hospital for over a week she is so small. Has anyone else had this problem with thier puppy? If so how did it go. Each time I cuddle her it makes me want to cry because of what she has to go through :( |
I'm so sorry your little one is sick. I'll keep you and Maggie in my prayers. Please keep us updated with her surgery and progress - we'll be thinking about her. Bonny |
So sorry to hear about Maggie. My one question is, Why should you have to go through this? It is the responsibility of the breeder. Bottom line it is birth defect and should have been caught before you got her. I know you love her dearly and probably would never give her back, IN that case ALL the money you paid for her should be returned so you can use it to pay for the surgery. The surgery. if done by a qualified specialist, can be very successful. My prayers are with you and Maggie. Please keep us posted!!!! Sparklingbluyorkies.com |
Thank you, I will do :) The breeder will take her back and give me another puppy but after having her for 5 weeks I couldn't do that as the breeder it seems would have her put to sleep. |
I'm sorry to hear about the breeder, PLEASE talk to the breeder about refunding your money. Actually they wouldn't be out anything by giving you your money back. It will help you with the expenses. Would you mind PM me with the breeders name? I have been showing and breeding for over 30 years now and I would just DIE if this was happening to me and you'd better believe you would have your money back and a PUPPY when you were ready for another!! I'm sorry your little Maggie is facing this surgery. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for a safe and successful surgery and speedy recovery. I also hope that you can get help from the breeder. I will be looking for your updates. |
I'm so sorry that you and Maggie are going thru. I'm keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. |
Have you contacted the PDSA? They may be able to do the operation for free. I see you are from Buckinghamshire, I will try and find the contact details for your closest PDSA hospital. |
There dosn't seem to be any PDSA hospitals in Buckinghamshire, but £3,500 is a lot of money to save if you are willing to travel. You should contact the PDSA and ask where is the nearest PDSA hospital to you and find out if you are able to use them Contact Us Page I also think you should discuss this with your breeder. Did you sign a contract? She really should refund you some money to go towards vet fees IMO. |
