Swolen leg Hi, in the last few days my little Yorkie has been holding his back leg up, I have looked at his feet and all seems ok. On the back of his leg on the most lower joint there is some swelling, (its like a ball of swelling on the back of the joint) he does not seem to be in any pain but I am a bit worried about it, also he wants to play but I am trying not to so that the swelling can go down. Some info on Chico, he is just over 3 years old and very small for a Yorkie. He is always running round everywhere and is forever jumping up and down from the sofa, could this be early signs of a LP? Many thanks for any adivce given  |
If your Chico is limping and his leg is swollen he needs to be seen by a vet for a proper diagnosis. Welcome to YT and please let us know what your vet has to say. |
If he is holding up the leg, it is bothering him, and he may be just very stoic and now showing his signs of pain. Just as with us, pain has varying levels of degree and intensity. If this were my dog, I'd be at the vet to have them check it out, even if they told me he was fine. Better safe than sorry! |
Vet and please let us know. Welcome to YT. |
Many thanks for the welcome, Chico will be going to the vets in the next couple of days, and I will let you know what the problem is. woof woof |
Your pup needs to see the vet asap (tomorrow). At the very least they may want to put him on an anti-inflammatory to reduce pain and swelling. |
Hi everyone, Chico has been to the vet and they have said it seems like he has pulled a tendon in his ankle, they have recomended he rests for a week or so to let the swelling go down (not easy as he still wants to play all the time) so good news that it is nothing serious. |
So glad to hear Chico will be okay. Hope he got some medicine to help. It's probably going to be quite a week trying to keep a normally active Yorkie quiet but hopefully some here will have some advice on how to do that other than just laptime, which is how I usually kept mine quiet. All my best to you and Chico. P. S. To keep stress off his little joints in the future, could you buy him some doggie steps so that he can just climb the steps up and down from the couch? It would be much easier on his little shoulders and wrists, knees and ankles to get to use steps. They have pretty inexpensive ones in discount stores now. |

Walgreens and Walmart carry some inexpensive plastic stairs that are a good height for the couch. I think they're only $10 or $15. |
