I just called the Hospital, the Dr. is in surgery, but will call me back ASAP :( |
Hmm. It would probably be better for him to be rehospitalized or maybe they can get another at-home pain med onboard or something to sedate him slightly. If he continues to skip meals, they can feed him another way, so please try not to worry too much about that. As far as I know, the blood is normal. I'm so so so sorry. I know how much you love him. |
so sorry he's having a hard time. My friend who has a larger yorkie (13 lbs) went thru gallbladder surgery with hers and he also had another hole cut so he could pee. She was constantly mopping up spots and had towels down everywhere. It was about 2 weeks before she felt comfortable not leaving towels all around. Sending hugs to TJ, hope you guys get some rest and he starts to feel better. Hugs. |
Wow!!! Just reading this now. SO sorry you are going through this. I hope you are are able to get some relief for him. Hugs to you both!!!! |
You all are so wonderful! :) So, the Dr. called me back and asked me to bring TJ in for a check up. Which we did. They were able to pass a cathrta so that's good. He said TJ would have a UTI, or a urethra spasm making him feel the urge to pee, or simply bc of the 2 major surgeries he had. So it was a good checkup, I am glad I called, rather be safe than sorry. ...just gotta get him to eat now :( |

I'm glad he was able to take another look at TJ. Did he give him something better to manage the pain at home? I'm hoping TJ has a better night tonight and is not crying and whimpering :( |
I'm glad the doctor took another look at him, just to be sure. Poor little fella. I'm hoping for a restful night for you and TJ tonight. |
TJ is on a strong dose of Tramadol (liquid, every 8 hours). When he was at the hospital he was on Fentanyl drip. He is also on Clavamox right now. Dr. said we are only 4 days into this and that by day 7 - 10 he'll be doing a lot better. Tonight, my plan is that when TJ gets up to pee, I will get up and after he does his first initial normal pee, I will pick him up and hold him, hopefully get him settled and not in a "pee trance" - bc I think he "thinks" he has to pee more and winds up pushing really hard and it hurts him, so if I can kinda break that, maybe he won't cry and wimper so much. Good News to Report!!!! I gave my husband a can of Avoderm (Veggie) when I met them at the Dr. And when he took TJ home, and made him a little plate of it, he gobbled it all up    |

Just now seeing this thread, sending well wishes that TJ continues to improve. |
I'm so happy he ate.:) That will help make him stronger. I really hope you can get some sleep. Keeping him in my thoughts and I hope each night becomes easier for him. |
It was good that you followed up and checked back with the Vet. I'm happy to hear TJ is eating, that's a good sign. Know that you are all in my prayers, I hope you both can get some sleep tonight. Keep posting updates. |
:( Sending prayers and hugs for a restful night and no more pain. Poor little TJ! |
4 Attachment(s) Hi Everyone! Last night was a bit better, although the dog food might be a bit rich for him, bc it was messy and he stepped in it, it got stuck in his paw pad and tracked all over his area (no biggie though). After he got cleaned up, I kept him in his play pen and I slept in the bed (backwards) so he could see me. We woke up about 4 or 5 times, the last time I wrapped him up in a fleece blanket and brought him in bed with me, which was probably what he wanted all along, bc he feel right asleep peacefully. This morning I made his regualr home made food (no chicken though), but I added a little egg whites. I took his cone off and let him eat in his normal spot, he was happy and went to town...he ate a decent amount, so I am pleased about that. Dr. just called me and told me there was no growth in TJs culture. The urinalysis was good but had Struvite crystals. His bladder biopsy showed Chronic Cystitis which he feels is because of all those stones that were bouncing around in his bladder. ..still waiting on the stones results though :( Here are some pics: #1 - minutes before TJ was going in for surgery #2 - Roxy after she got to see that TJ was alright #3 - TJ coming home (see the little smile on his face - his eyes were glued on me the whole ride home! #4 - TJ in his playpen |
2 Attachment(s) #5 - TJ with Daddy sleeping on the floor #6 - Aunty Dana (my sister who is watching him today) - She is 5 months pregnant and TJ is resting/sleeping & snoring on her baby boy in her belly - so cute! P.S. TJ isn't fat - hahahaha - he just has really fluffy hair, he was suppose to get groomed but he went for surgery instead! And obviously they shaved him in certain areas, so it really makes him look plump- LOL He weighed 7 lbs on Friday and 6.4 yesterday - poor baby! |
Awww, love the pics of TJ and Roxy! :) It's so good to hear that he's eating again. Way to go TJ! |
I enjoyed the pictures of TJ and Roxy. I'm so happy that he is eating. Continued get well prayers for him!!!! Feel better little man! |
Just checking in to see how TJ is doing. So glad that he's home with you, he's in my prayers and I'll continue to check back to read his progress.:) |
Your pics of TJ and Roxy are really cute.:p I hope he's continuing to improve. I was thinking of him today and wondering how he was doing. |
Love the pictures of your two darlings! Been following your posts and what has been happening to TJ. I had an English Bulldog 30 years ago that had the same thing happen to him. We made it through Ok and he lived several years afterwards. Good luck! I am sending prayers your way! |
I don't know why I wasn 't able to see the pics, but after reading everyones comments, I was so happy to hear that he is at home and eating. His in my prayes! Keep the updates coming. Baby Princes (Naomi) Mami to Princess Chloe:) |
Yay, TJ is eating - such a good sign! The pics of TJ and Roxy are so cute. He makes a cone look completely stylish! |
Thank you everyone for keeping TJ in your prayers! He is doing better and better, slowly though. We got a new Kiss E Collar and he looks so cute! I'll get pics later. He is eating really good now, a friend sent me some RC Hepatic LS 14 - that both he and Roxy are eating throughout the day, along with their liver aiding supplements. Not sure how long it will last (them wanting to eat dog food), but I will keep it up until they start acting bratty LOL TJ isn't peeing blood like he was before and he is able to rest more often, vs. trying to pee all day and all night. He will do his normal pee and then try 5 more times, but we try to stop him when he does that, so he doesn't push blood. Dr. said he should stop that in about 2 weeks. I finally got a little sleep/rest yesterday myself! Hugs and Kisses from TJ :animal36 |
I'm so glad things are going well. Eating well is half the battle.:) Be sure to update us as he recovers. I want to see the pics in his new collar.:D |
So glad to hear TJ is doing so much better! The pics are adorable too. Wishing TJ an uneventful and continued recovery.... Hugs, Kathy |
Awww, Nicole, so glad that TJ (and Roxy) are doing well. Big hugs to all of you. I know you all are probably so drained from all of this. |
Oh Nicole I'm so sorry I missed this when it first happened. Poor TJ. I'm glad to hear that everything went well though and that he is starting to feel better. I've seen this surgery done many times with great success. I hope TJ continues to do well and heals nicely. Was this the first time he had stones stuck in his urethra? |
I am so glad to see that TJ is doing so well. These little ones scare us so when they are ill. You have done so much to take care of him; God bless you and may you get some rest and he comfort. With warm regards, Mary |
tj and roxy are adorable!!! i'm so glad everything went well and i hope he continues to improve! :) |

I had a very busy week, going back to work, having a sitter stay with TJ, etc.. He is getting better. His rests are longer, but when he is up is still has the urge to pee like 20 times. We go tomorrow to the surgeon, for his bladder surgery incision stitches to come out and a check up. It looks good, except two spots, it seems like the knot of the stitches inside isn't going down. I told the Dr. about it and he said he may be having a reaction, but he will look it over when we go on Monday. I spoke with my nutritionist regarding food. We talked about revising their homemade diet and also about prescription food. He said the canned RC S.O. food is good for water content, but it's too high in fat for TJ. He said I could give the kibble SO and soak it in distilled water, but the sodium content is very high and in the long run is not good for dogs with liver issues. Which brings me to the next point. He said that since TJ has produced Urate (Jan urinalysis) that we cannot dismay the fact he may have a liver issue, one that we will simply never know exactly what, but that it may be there. So, he said that both TJ and Roxy would be ok on the RC Hepatic, soaked in distilled water (like I have been doing). He said Roxy can have 1 oz. of cottage cheese daily. For TJ I have to add 1/8 teaspoon of salt to his daily ration and he can have 1 oz. of boiled lean chicken breast daily. He wants me to not add anything else, no supplements, no treats and no dental products. We will retest their urine in 2 to 3 weeks. At that point we can discuss adding things back, or not. So that's the plan for now. Thankfully they are enjoying the RCH soaked in distilled water. I am pushing their water intake as far as I can, and to my surprise, they are drinking up all the extra water I put into their food bowls, along with the soggy kibble. I can tell already by their diluted urine color, that they are getting a good amount of water intake. Fingers crossed that their next urinalysis are clean ;) All the prayers and well wishes from everyone on this thread is so much appreciated! THANK YOU ~ THANK YOU :) |
