Possible UTI I posted this in the health and diet section on accident... so here is the post: First off... I have already spoke to the vet and I am waiting on Miss Taycie to collect a urine sample from her... Then to the vet we go! Anyways..This morning I woke up to an accident on my bed. Taycie NEVER has accidents which I am really blessed.. but this is why I am wondering..I immediently put every thing in the washer and cleaned it up. This got me thinking... her water intake has been strange lately. She goes to work with me and right now they are undergoing major construction to their home. I nanny during the week so she comes along. I have noticed her water intake has been different. She hasn't been drinking as much during the day but then at night she will go to her dish at home and drink quite a bit. At first I thought it was because I moved her dish because of the construction and she couldn't find it... I haven't really noticed her struggling to pee.. seems fairly normal.. But I did inspect her private area this morning after I called the vet and it does seem slightly more red. Not horrible but their is a definate color change.. Also she did seem like I was bothering her like it was tender.. Anyways I am thinking it is a UTI and I want to have it checked out immeditley regardless if it is or isn't. I always err on the side of caution.. especially when it is something like that. I am just a nervous wreck! I added some water over her kibble and some wet food so I am hoping I can collect it quickly! Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have never delt with this before and want to make sure she is getting everything she needs! Thanks everyone. Update: The Urinalysis showed not to be concered. She said she saw a little bit of bacteria but not anything she was over concered about. She did want to see her to make sure she didn't have an infection on the skin. So we are going in at 2 to make sure everything looks ok. |
That's why when an infection is suspected, it is best to have the vet take the urine (some don't want to though). If there is bacteria in it then, you can safely assume that it is an infection. Have you measured her water intake? |

She did just have another accident which totally concerns me. She NEVER does this! |
Update: Just got back from the vet. She did a full examination and she did say her gentials looked red and put her on amoxicillin for 2 weeks. She said otherwise everything looks wonderful. While examining her she asked, Do you brush her teeth? I said yes! She said keep it up! They look FANTASTIC. I will admit its nice to hear you are doing things right! Glad things are going to be ok and she is on the mend! |
The amoxi will knock out most UTIs if one is present, so the only concern would be if she keeps up with the odd drinking pattern. |
I am going to keep an eye on her and see how she does. If we need to go back we will. |
Sending good thoughts to Taycie. Glad she has meds and is on her way to healing. Kudos for the clean teeth. |
I'm sorry Taycie is having problems. I hope the meds take care of any problems. Whenever any of mine had an infection, they didn't have accidents, but would piddle just a little dab and do so frequently. Just thought I'd pass this on for future reference. Let me know how Taycie is doing. |
Maybe try taking some water from your home to work with you for her to drink... maybe a problem with their water? |

Just had to update I took a water bottle from home with me today and I took her main water dish.. Yes.. she did drink more! Maybe I have a picky water drinker instead of a picky eater? Oh, well.. I can deal with that! Whatever works:) |
