abscess from shots with fever
 

Mocha had her 4th set of shots three days ago and had to be rushed in to get a
benadryl shot due to a reaction. She seemed to sleep alot after that but was ba
ck to her normal self untill yesterday afternoon when I noticed a bump on her ne
ck in the same area where her shot was given. She cried when I touched it and I assumed it was just tender because of the shots. This morning the bump was bigger so we decided to take her to the vet. She had a 103 temp and the bump is an abscess. They drained the abscess and sent us home with antibiotics. We were told to put a hot towel on it twice a day and to try to drain it by squeezing but when we did, the abscess spread under the skin. We called the vet and he said to keep up with the hot towels but to not squeeze anymore. She is eating fine but she still feels really warm and she is very lethargic. Has anyone had this happen? I can't find anything online! Any response is helpfull and appreciated.

In my opinion any reaction to a vaccine is a bad reaction and there is a growing controversy in this country and in the veterinary community as a whole about the damage that vaccines do to our pets and the fact that we are quite possibly over-vaccinatng them.

If you are interested in finding out more there are threads on here you can read if you search under "over vaccination" they should come up or do the same google search on the internet. I have found a really good homeopathic vet that I go to and I am not giving my dogs any more vaccines but using diet and nosodes to boost their immune system which are actually safer and more effective than traditional vaccines without the side effects.

Did your vet give your puppy more than one shot at a time and was it a "combo" shot? Once you learn more about the side effects of "vaccinosis" as the condition is called you will better be able to advise your vet on what you do and don't want for your baby.

PM me if you want more assistance finding info on this subject. I would be haapy to help and I am sorry your baby had a reaction but the absess was her body "rejecting" the poison or the vaciine in my opinion.

I have absolutely no idea and have never heard of such a thing. I'll bump this to the top and perhaps someone with knowledge will see this. I can't help but wonder if the needle was dirty. :rolleyes:

Injection Site Abscesses may occur when producers administer vaccines to goats. Indicative of the immune system's response to the vaccine, these large roundish lumps usually disappear over time and without human intervention. Because it is so frequently used, the overeating-tetanus vaccine CD/T is probably the product best known for causing injection-site abscesses. Using dirty needles or re-using the same needle can also cause injection site abscesses. Flush erupted abscesses with 7% iodine and pack the site daily with Triple Antibiotic Cream until healed. This is particularly important in hot climates where flies and other insects are prevalent.

That is strange though. Didn't Mocha have all of her 3 shots from the same vet? It maybe over dose?

I know my babies got sick and got small notts by their shots , but nothing like that. poor baby , I hope he gets better soon.

Her first three shots were with the breeder and that is where she got the last one. I am thinking she was given too much.

I agree ....i would be very careful woth this baby in the future and really research and give ONLY what she absolutely needs. If she is an indoor dog which most yorkies are I would even consider getting a waiver from your vet so you don't have to have the rabies. Good luck.

dogs can react to their vaccincations, just like your children did, when they received their baby shots. I have had some puppies run small fevers and lay around, just like my kids used to do. I have also heard of the shots killing puppies , who were allergic to them. but as far as having too much of a shot, I wouldn't say that was the problem. It was just a reaction to the vaccine. I would make sure , that the vet , who gives the next shot is aware that your puppy reacted to the last one, so that they can be prepared.

Poor little Mocha :( . Did you see the breeder take a clean needle out of the individual plastic wrap? Mine both had bumps on them from their rabies shot, but for yours to have an abcess is horrible. The vets around here will not acknowlege shots given from the breeder regardless of how many were given and therefore, they start all over. I hope Mocha is better VERY soon! Please keep us updated as I am very concerned for her.
