Thor has a bad tummy ache Thor started this morning off with a nice, solid, normal looking poop. However, he started acting strangely about an hour afterward. He's clearly very uncomfortable, and his stomach has been making weird noises all day. He hasn't pooped, vomited, or eaten. His kibble is available; I tried to give him some fat free yogurt and fat free cottage cheese, but he is not interested in any of it. I've touched him all over, and he's was fine it. He hasn't had anything strange to eat (that I know of) in the past 24 hours. I did give him a thawed chicken wing about 48 hours ago (it had been in my freezer for months). I'm planning to take him to the vet tomorrow morning, and I just remembered I have some chicken breasts in my freezer. He had a wellness check a few weeks ago. I guess I am wondering, does this sound like an intestinal blockage? Thor has never had stomach discomfort for this long. With all the burbling, I would at least be expecting some gross farts, but nothing is coming out either end. |
Okay, I just gave him some plain chicken breast and he is eating that with some gusto. |
awwww sorry I just saw this post!!! I'm so glad to hear that Thor is eating good now!!! Has he eliminated yet? Poor little guy...will check back and see how he's doing tomorrow!! |
Thank you. He still seems pretty uncomfortable, unfortunately. One thing maybe I should have mentioned: I woke up this morning to discover two flea bites on the back of his leg, which Thor addressed by chewing off most of the hair in the area. So I'm concerned that he's trying to digest a lot of his own hair? |
found this info: According to The Veterinarians' Guide to Your Dog's Symptoms, common symptoms of bowel obstruction in dogs includes lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting and watery diarrhea. Does he have all of those symptoms? If so it could be serious... |
That's the thing, Thor is not vomiting at all. And no diarrhea - no poop, period. I don't know, he seems pretty comfortable for twenty minutes, and then he gets a shooting pain. I'd think it was pancreatitis, except he had nothing but kibble yesterday... he did go to daycare, but they feed decent treats there. |
awwww poor little guy!!! Then it doesn't sound like a blockage...sounds more like pancreatitus too |
Sorry Thor is feeling yucky. Hope he passes whatever it is and is feeling lots better in the morning. Do you think a little canned pumpkin might help? I always hear it recommended for both diarrhea and constipation and upset tummy. I keep it on hand, but haven't had to use it yet. |
I'm so sorry Thor is not feeling well. Please let us know what the vet says. |
I hope Thor is feeling better today. Max had a really bad belly ache once and couldn't sit still for even a second because he couldn't get comfortable. It turned out to be a bad case of gas and constipation. A warm body bath and canned pumpkin helped him pass the gas and then he was able to sleep, and he pooped in the morning. |
I hope Thor is feeling better! Ringo is still getting over his tummy problems; one step foward and two steps back. I just started adding a little canned pumpkin so will let you know if that helps. BUT, wanted to mention, when he was really bad with the bloody stool, etc; his stomach was making all kinds of noises like you heard. Keep us posted. |
Hope that Thor is feeling better. One thing that I feel I should mention: sometimes pups get pancreatitis no matter whether they have eaten something that could trigger it or not. For many cases, the cause is unknown. |
Poor Thor! I have no ideas as to what it could be. But stomach problems are so uncomfortable, poor little guy. Give him kisses from me and Jackson! |
I hope Thor feels better soon. Morgan had pancreatitis last week. Only thing she had to eat was her own food. Nothing I know of that could have set it off. She threw up every 30 minutes all night long. Once all the food was up she continued to dry heave on that schedule. it was sad. I could clearly tell she was miserable and her stomach was making all sorts of sounds. I kept an eye on her hydration and general state all night and then took her to the vet in the morning. They did a cPli snap test and it came up slightly positive for pancreatitis. She's on metronidazole and was also give some i'd prescription food. We have one more day of the meds and she already back on her own food. |
I hope Thor is feeling better. |
