Veruca is having surgery in the morning! I posted this on my previous thread but I thought if the title was better people may respond... I took Veruca back to the vet today because she vomited bile again this morning (3rd time) and they x-rayed her. It turns out that 1 of 3 pieces of flip flop she ate 3 weeks ago has not passed through her and is partially obstructing her GI tract (in the stomach). So they're keeping her overnight on fluids and tomorrow she is having surgery to remove the flip flop. I am a nervous wreck and super distraught since I feel bad, Veruca is already scared of the vet and shakes when I bring her to the office. The surgeon is calling me in the morning, are there any specific questions that I should ask him? I am a dog surgery novice (other than her spay). She has to stay over night tomorrow also and possibly the next night to be monitored and I have a medical school exam Friday which I cannot focus on at all. Thanks for any advice. |
i wish i knew something to tell you to ask; other than to tell him to call you asap after the surgery to say if it went okay, of course(:i hope it goes okay! |
Ordinarily you would ask about anesthesia used, preop bloodwork, etc., but it doesn't look like there is time for that. It has to come out now! You could look at the anesthetic protocol in the YT Library and make sure everything is covered (minus the bloodwork because you can't put the surgery off). |
I hope she does ok :) |
Best of luck to you and the pup. |
Good luck today, I'll be thinking about your little one. Please let us know when the surgery is done. Keep thinking positive thoughts. Teresa |
How scary, I hope all goes well today. I'll be sending prayers your way. |
Prayers for you and little Veruca. Just keep her NPO, etc. after the time tonight they say. I had a tiny 3 lb. Yorkie that went under for her spaying and dentals and she always did fine with the breathing and IV support they give. My current Tibbe has done fine with his neutering and dentals. They'll prob do a stat blood in the a.m. just to see where they are for the blood count, platelets etc and proceed. I don't know anything more to worry about right now but letting you know many here will sure be praying she makes it through safely and has a very uneventful post-op course. I know how shaky you are feeling right now but try to think how many little guys undergo surgery every single day safely. Hold on and keep us posted. |
I have heard of this problem (eating flip flops) before, so my husband who had a pair got rid of them and bought Crocs. I'm sure your baby will be in excellent hands. Ask your Vet. if they have someone staying with her during the nights though. If they don't, maybe you could bring her home at night then take her back in the mornings. Just a thought. |
How is Veruca doing? Did the surgery go OK? Prayers are being sent your way. |
