Corona nasal vacine, reactions? TicTac had her final adult vacines Tuesday. This included the nasal drops for upper respiratory. The Dr. said she might experience a little sneezing and nasal irritation, but this morning she's snotting and hacking like she can't clear her sinuses and chest. I'm running her back to the vet this AM. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not planning on vacinating every year due to the excellent resources I've found here. Never made sense to me to give a 3 lb dog the same size shot as for a 110 lb dog. And I did't get my kids shots EVERY year. In the mean time, if anyone else has seen this reaction, please pass on to me your advice and councel. Thanks to all of you, I love this site. |
Do you mean Bordetella, not corona? It's good you are going back to the vet right away. If it is Bordetella, be aware that it not a vaccination that lasts. If your doggy needs it, then it will have to be administered annually. |
Bordatella is the intranasal vaccine. It is a live vaccaine and there have been many pups who have developed kennel cough from the vaccine. My first pup did. Sounds like yours has, too. It is basically an upper respiratory infection and you will most likely be given an antibiotic. It can take quite a while to completely go away. The cough that results can make them feel as though they are choking and cannot get air, causing them to panick. If you can soothe while coughing, this usually helps calm them down. BTW - no vaccine can be automatically administered as you have the right and responsibility to know what your vet or tech is giving and should be consenting first. |
Update- you are all right, not corona, was Bordatella. I feel like a bad mom. TicTac is miserable, but I think will over come this. |

Update on TicTac. I discovered it was the Bordatella drops that caused such irritation of both her sinus tract and her little throat. Now she has that awful honky cough so caracteristic of trechia collaps. I cut her cough medication in half and she is doing better on it. Dr. gave her the cough meds to help rest her throat till it heals. I was upset because I did not want her given the Bordatella vaccine in the first place. Thank you all for your input and prayers. I just found out my Dad (84) fell and broke his hip, so we will be heading up state tomorrow to help Momma (82). |

Thank you so much for your help. |
Oh No. I'm so sorry about your dad. I will be praying for him & your baby. Please keep a Close eye on your baby to make sure she's not getting pneumonia. I would ask the vet for antibiotic as that's usually what is given for kennel cough, ask about mucinex too as it thins the mucous so it will come out easier. |
