Confused I have had Minnie since she was 8wks old. She is almost 6 months old. Born 9/30/10. She just got her boosters including bortedella about a week and a half ago. Weighed 2lbs 8oz at her check up. I have noticed since then that she has been making funny sounds kind of like reverse sneezing but not as consistent as I have seen in videos posted on youtube or here. I know the health problems associated with YT but my biggest concern is tracheal collapse. To me it does not sound like it but then again I am not a veterinarian. Maybe I am just a worry wart. Minnie is like my kid to me and I love her to pieces. Minnie goes to the vet Tuesday morning to get checked out, the lady did mention reverse sneezing like I said. Any idea's, it does not sound like honking (tracheal collapse). Thank you for your help. Btw Minnie is my first YT, she has had her heartworm and flea prevention for the month and is on Science Diet Small Bites puppy/toy breed food. |
chester makes noises and I think his is the t collapse and sometimes when his allergies kick in he sounds like he is coughing up a hair ball, it scares the crap out of me. I was going to say say the science diet is a low quality food and some vets recommend it because they get a kick back from it. Some better foods are wellness, merrick, solid gold, blue buffalo, natural balance. If you decide to change foods do it over a week or so to prevent upset tummy, good luck |
Try and get the noises on video tape, that will help your vet with the diagnosis. My Rhett has seasonal allergies that cause his reverse sneezing (we are getting ready to head in to that season...) Last year, the vet prescribed antihistamines for a short period of time and that helped him immensely. |
It is more nasal with Minnie |
She sure got a lot of shots and meds for such a tiny little thing. Could be she got a bit of the kennel from the bordetella vaccine. Also maybe you should consider home cooking for her or at least put her on a better puppy food. |
Hi, My little yorkie Farley does the same thing everytime he gets bordatella. I hate squirting it up his nose. I feel like i am drowning him. I work at the vet clinic, so i usually end up doing it myself after the Dr gives him his exam. But he will do this reverse sneezing off and on for a day or two afterward. I hate it, but he is just fine after a day or two. |
They do have an Injectable Bordatella Vac. that can used. |
Took Minnie to the vet this morning and she has tracheal irritation and was prescribed antibiotics. Hopefully it works in a few days or she will have to go back. She has to take it 2 times a day til its gone. I guess I am a worry wart but she is my baby. Thank you for all your help :) |
