Bladder stones 8-month old Sadie started peeing 10 times a minute. Took to vet last Saturday, and he did no testing. Just took temperature (which was 103), said bladder infection and gave shot and pills. She was no better after 3 days. Took her back with urine sample in hand. Said sample just had protein and did x-ray. Said she has bladder stones. Gave her more pills, dry Royal Canine food and said they will dissolve in 2 weeks. She hasn't eaten since Tuesday because she won't eat the food. She is still peeing as much, only sleeping hour at a time at night and crying incessantly. Help! |
Did the vet day what kind of bladder stones she has? |
Bladder stones He just did an x-ray and said there were stones. |
Kinda hard to say what type of stones by xray alone. Struvites can be dissolved in some cases, but there are no guarantees. IMO, it's time for a second opinion (actually they should have done a u/a on the first visit). If she is in this much pain, they probably should be removed surgically. I'd take her somewhere else today. |
I agree with Ellie May! |
Second opinion Took Sadie to another vet and took the x-ray from the first vet. Guess what ---- there were no bladder stones. I also took a urine sample, and they did extensive testing on it. There were no bladder stone crystals. I am so mad that I almost had the first vet do surgery on her when she only had a UTI. Thanks to those of you who encouraged me to get the second opinion. |
